Login loop

Postby Jen » Mon Mar 24, 2014 9:37 pm

My phone is caught on a login loop like Sherri and maxs_mommy, but my ipad works fine (except for having to log in every time I come back). Just FYI. It's an iPhone and just started this tonight.

This is happening to me regularly. Phone or desktop doesn't matter. I will be reading, click home or board index and I'm booted. Many times when I try to post or login, it fails and I get a safari screen that says action not completed because the server was reset. Refresh screen, rinse, repeat. Sometimes if I go to another site and then come back to this one it will then work. Makes it hard to read the boards and contribute when I keep getting booted and losing posts.

I still get logged out (and can't log back in) whenever I click "home". "Board Index" works for me, and has been my work around, but yeah, I'm still having occasional issues too.

I get sometimes hung up and have to close/reopen the site or chrome just sits and spins. If I reply to a post something resets and i'm good to go. If I dart in and out of posts without replying then I get a lag. Happens on laptop/tablet/phone, all in Chrome.

^ that same thing happens to me in Firefox. I can look at one or two posts and then I get the ever twirling circle. I get the spinning circle immediately if I try to use "quick link", "home", or "board index. It is virtually impossible for me to navigate and use the forum with Firefox. I've checked my settings, cleared the cache, updated my favorites link, tried turning off extra security I have running and nothing helps.

The only way for me to use the site is to log in with IE, the only site I have to do this with.

Just to add more info: I'm good on Safari on my iPhone and iPad, except my "remember me" check mark never gets remembered. But I think that's a my phone issue than an ODO issue because it does it to me on my teacher forum too.

And.....I can't stay logged in on my Chrome browser again. Firefox is working fine, but I enter my username and password in Chrome and it just doesn't seem to realize that I've logged in and presents me with the "guest" home page anyway.

I made the mistake of clicking the "home" button yesterday instead of "board index", which is what always seems to trigger this issue for me. Usually I can close the tab, or at worst close the whole Chrome browser and am able to log back in correctly, but not today.

I just made two changes that may or may not affect this. The problem is that there is still no one unique issue that could be causing all these problems. They seem to be entirely unrelated.

I can log in with Chrome on my laptop if I go "incognito" but not if I use my ordinary platform or whatever it is called. Can't login on the Android tablet at all.

I was un-logged in by the forum on both my laptop (firefox) and my phone (BB Bold). It wouldn't let me log in with firefox, but would let me log in with chrome, which I only use for FB. I'm on a PC.

Went back to Firefox and cleared the cookies for this site - (right click, view page info, security, view cookies, and deleted one by one). Now it's working like a charm. I haven't tried with my phone, deleting cookies is a PIA there because I have to delete them all and then relogin to everything, so for now I'm just going to stay logged in on my laptop. I guess we'll see if that permanently solves the problem.

Lisa, you can usually just clear the cache for your specific browser app, not the whole phone. You go to the app info on android and hit the "clear cache" button.

Not sure if it helps you troubleshoot or not, Sabine, but I have to clear the cache EVERY time I try to log in again, on every device, in every browser. If I log in, leave, and come back I'm forced back into the loop until I clear my cache. Easy enough fix, but a royal p.i.t.a for all the other sites I go to regularly.

I can now log in on both the Android tablet and laptop (using Chrome) but only by going Incognito, even though I have cleared the cache on both. And even though I click 'remember me', it doesn't, nor does it let me stay logged in.

But, now I have to use chrome incognito on the iPhone (but not on the computer). It was working earlier today in normal mode.

It's my understanding that clearing the cache is different than deleting the cookies. I'm also on a BB, but I can get to the cache, just can't delete individual board cookies. However, looks like I can use the "delete cookies" link on the forum, if it works.

Had a tough time logging in today with the current version of FF on my laptop. Took about three tries before I could open the window to this thread. It only happened on this forum.

Yes, cache and cookies are two different things.

Most browsers have a way to manage cookies under the "tools" or "preferences" tab. There should be a search box so you don't have to go through everything manually.
