Is anyone else doing Recallers?

Postby maxs_mommy » Tue Jul 07, 2015 2:14 pm

I watched the first video today (grab the collar). We'll be doing it in harness since Max doesn't wear a collar because of old neck issues but I wonder if we can do neck touch instead since he doesn't wear a harness unless it's leashed usually. Thoughts?

I did the whole course with Dax when he was about a year or so old.

The basic idea behind the exercise is to condition the dog to expect good things to happen when you grab the collar. From our FAQ back then:

QUESTION: No Collar?
How would you like me to play it with the dog (actually it’s two here) who can’t wear a collar? I
could put a collar on them just for the game or go through the motions… they both (for different
reasons) wear sensation harnesses when they need confinement.

Answer: Beginning stages you will need to put a collar on so you can classically condition good
things happen when your collar is grabbed - after you have observed that the dog doesn’t react
you can progress to grabbing the harness, scruff. You want a non reaction from the dog except to
be looking for a treat delivered! You will work through the same process with a harness; grab it
from above, from the side, in the front.

Thank you! The forums are a little wonky since they moved to a new server for the volume and I couldn't find anything.

I heard that a crazy number of people signed up - which is great. :)

When I went through the program, I saved a lot of screenshots and printed pages to pdf so I could refer to them later, so let me know if you have any more questions. Chances are I've got something on hand.

I signed up, but their emails are going to spam and I am having trouble figuring it out. I will try to check it out tonight. :)

I didn't have trouble getting in but I kept getting emails that they were moving to bigger and bigger servers. The forums are a little wonky, they have some kinks to work out but I've accessed the videos and materials without problem.

I did it last time through and really wished I hadn't paid for it, especially if the next session she made it free! lol It wasn't cheap. I'm not sure how it's structured now that she's made it free, or even if it really is free.

Heather, not the entire Recallers program is free now. Just some core exercises.

Right. I just thought I'd try the freebies and see if we liked it.

I think it's great. So many of my terrier club people signed up and I'm hoping it will help them to develop better relationships and maybe actually continue to train their dogs. Most of them just let their dogs walk all over them whenever and however they want.
