Another Dax milestone

Postby Sabine » Wed Jun 20, 2012 2:56 pm

Just posting because I'm so proud of my little guy.

We went to the Joan Jett concert at the San Diego County Fair yesterday. The concert started at 7.30 pm, so it meant we had to drive down there during prime rush hour traffic.

We left at around 4 pm and were back home at close to midnight. I had left Dax gated in the kitchen because I didn't want him to have to spend hours in his crate during the day when he is already crated at night. Had a good friend come over to give him a potty break and play with him for a little while at around 8 pm.

Came home to no accidents (friend also confirmed there were none when she arrived), nothing destroyed, and a relatively calm puppy who looked like he had just woken up when he heard the garage door open.

I had kind of dreaded leaving him alone for so long for the first time, but it worked out well. :)

Yep, I was actually thinking about that too - and how many people just don't do anything and get upset when the dog does have an accident.

Good boy, Dax. I'm sure you were relieved to not have a mess to clean up, or to find that he'd turned into a mini Captain Destructo. :)

Updating, mainly for my own reference. Another Joan Jett concert rofl but much closer to home.

This time our outing was only 6 hours and Dax was just fine without anyone stopping in, gated in the kitchen with some toys and chewies.

He's a rockstar :) And I'm jealous that you got to see Joan Jett again! I haven't seen her in years and I always love her shows.

That's great! how tall is your gate? Last time I used a 36" tall xpen to gate Jazz, she scaled it. She knows no fear....

The kitchen has a 42" gate now, and it has no horizontal bars at all.

Well, other than the top and bottom that is.

That should do it

I also think that once they get in the habit of not jumping/scaling, they won't.....well, maybe
