Okay, this is interesting. I've been supplementing the heck out of Abby's diet, using MSM powder, two Glycoflex tabs per day, at least 3000-4000 mg of fish oil per day, plus 500 mg vitamin C every other day, 100 mg vitamin E every day to every other day, and adding alfalfa powder for vitamin A. Been doing this ever since her diagnosis of OCD a few weeks ago. Her llimp is now practically nonexistant. I see it every once in a while, but it's definitely decreased dramatically in severity and occurance.
She has an appointment June 15 at UT (soonest appointment I could get), for a consultation visit and surgery. She will see the orthopedic vet on that Wednesday, and they will set her up for surgery on either Thursday or Friday, with an overnight stay. I have already taken time off work and plan to stay at a nearby Holiday Inn that offers a discount to clinic clients and is dog friendly (so Pepper can come along and visit the Knoxville dog park while Abby is in the hospital).
I definitely want them to redo her xrays to see what, if any, changes have occurred in that shoulder joint. I'm really curious to know if OCD symptoms can resolve with proper supplementation, and if those "joint mice" can resorb into the synovial fluid. The change I've seen in these last few weeks is so dramatic, I can't help but wonder. Anyone know if this is a possibility? I've done some internet research, but everything points to surgery being the only reliable treatment.
