Ole's got a bright red anus

Postby Jeano » Fri Feb 03, 2017 12:52 pm

Poor guy is not *that* bothered but buttholes should not be red, agreed?

He's pressed is bottom on the floor and scooted just a little bit about twice a day. When he goes out in the snow you'd think that'd be the best time to do that, but he doesn't. He just carries on rolling in the snow and rubbing on he fence like the silly joy clown he is.

I will take him to the vet, but any experience in inflamed assholes would be appreciated. (SO hard not to make jokes here.)

The whole thing or mostly on one side? Impacted anal gland?

There is no smell at all. I think it's from his consuming whatever stuff I'm currently trying to get Sofia to eat. Which can vary from wet dog to wet cat food, baby food, salmon, bread, you name it. He's still been getting mostly normal dog food but I'll keep his busy nose out of the leftovers and take him to the vet if a warm washcloth doesn't solve the problem.

If it's totally impacted but not (yet) ruptured or opened on its own then there wouldn't be a smell because nothing is getting out.

Sometimes a dog will scoot if a food causes an allergic reaction because the area itches too, so you could be right about this being related to the foods. It could be that or the sac issues, and possibly the redness is from him scooting.

Update: He is much better now, no more brakelight going on. He has a vet appointment for Friday anyway.
