Pofi Snickett's Unfortunate Series of Events

Postby PofiMia » Mon Mar 07, 2016 5:55 pm

Long story short, but Pofi will be having a surgery to remove the lump (infected sebaceous cyst) that popped up on the inside of the wrist joint of the "bad" foot. We were making good progress against lameness till Christmas when it ruptured and we cultured to find abx it wasn't resistant to. And then, a few weeks later, the nausea and discovery of mucocele. We had to stop any NSAIDs immediately with his liver values and since that moment, there has clearly been more pain in that wrist. He has stopped using the leg at all.

Went to see rehab and they said the lump is being pinched by flexor tendon and it is clearly painful. So there is no point in PT till it comes off.

New liver numbers are stellar so my vet and I talked. Talked about trying to freeze it off, but if it didn't work, we will have lost another month in trying. Another month of atrophy. It just did not seem like an option.

He did really well with anesthesia all these times and even for the ultrasound and biopsy 7 weeks ago, which took longer then this procedure.

But I still can't believe we are putting him under a fourth time in 8 months. But this is quality of life. He needs a leg he can at least put some weight on...

Think good thoughts please.

Good thoughts to you! Putting him under again is scary, but you're right, he's tolerated it well and he's currently miserable. You don't have much choice.

He'll be OK! He's always been OK with anesthesia, so that should ease your mind just a bit. :) So, this is a *new* lump, or it is the one that ruptured? For some reason I thought if it ruptured, it'd have drained and be gone. Anyway, no matter, it's going away anyway. I know how hard it is to watch owies—it'll be so such better, soon! :)

Oh poor Pofi! And poor you. It's no fun watching our pups be hurt. I feel for you. Hoping all goes well with his surgery and that he has the best possible outcome. When is the surgery scheduled for?

Here's hoping for a safe surgery, a quick recovery, and a much happier and pain-free Pofi Snickett!

Thank you all. Yes, this is the lump from November that ruptued in December. But it was only a little rupture and got smaller, but never went away. Could be a foreign body i n there. I think the pain from it was more controlled with him taking a few Carprofan a week.

I just saw on FB that he was out of surgery and zipped here to see what for. I sure hope this is the end of lameness for him and he recovers easily.
