The hair was shaved for the surgery. The actual bump hair just fell out. Nerve pain is certainly possible. He has been in the cone for about five straight days so no way he is continuing to chew it, but could have been the original cause. It's odd that it is directly on top of the tail though. It's a really tough place for him to reach.

Oh and when I poke and prod he doesn't seem too painful. He doesn't want me messing with the tail in general, but the bump doesn't elicit any whining or other pain response.

I'm using Vetericyn, hydrocortisone, and some antibiotic ointment from the vet from another issue. He is also taking Deramaxx, and I tried some Benadryl last night.

The bump isn't oozing or open. I might hit it with colloidal silver if it does

Going to take him in tomorrow. The bump has gotten bigger and looks purplish/red. Something is going on from the inside so I can't do anything to fix it at home. Just put it on my tab.

It looks like a cyst, which are gross but generally less worrisome. Good luck at the vet tomorrow.

I was thinking cyst, too, with the most recent pics. How was the visit today, Amanda?

Oh Jez, that looks angry and painful. I hope it is just a cyst or something else easily fixed.

Basically infected hair follicles probably from the tail being shaved. Lanced and drained. One week of antibiotics oral and topical. And dear God, please, let this be the last of all his many complications!!! :help:

For anyone interested in evening entertainment, see my Facebook page. The breeder's true colors are coming out. I didn't say a thing about her or my refund and she freaked out accusing me of trying to give her a bad name. The couple of people that know her and me via my personal page will see what she's about. I finally let loose in a private message response to her. I'm pretty angry with her now. I mean, I was angry before, but I was keeping it private. She made it public now.

I just saw that and came over here to see what was going on. Like you pointed out you never mentioned his HD in the post. Looks like a guilty conscious on the part of the breeder to me.

I did say his supplements and pain meds were for HD. But I never mentioned my disagreement with her or anything about her. She says because I have said his name before (and not in this post) people already know he's from her and that is true, but it's maybe 8 people total that are on my friends list that are involved in the breed. And only two of them even know the back story. So as far as everyone else was concerned, they had no idea she and I were in a disagreement until she told everyone.

I'm debating deleting the whole thing. A friend told me to delete her comments and unfriend her for my own sanity.

Uh, you can say whatever you want to whomever you want on your own damn FB wall! You can just limit her viewing privileges (move her onto a restricted list) so that she can see/comment on anything that isn't set to public. And like you keep saying, you did not say ANYTHING even close to what she's suggesting! *She's* the one who said ALL those things like a Freudian slip on gin and tonic! WhatEVER, lady. I would leave her foot-in-mouth comments for the world to see so that people interested in a dog will avoid her like they should.

Your friend is probably right, but I would have a very hard time not writing a VERY lengthy rebuttal. Unbelievable!!! That's the actions of a guilty conscience. You said nothing that implied anything about her breeding, yet she saw it. The lady doth protest too much?

I'm very sorry all this has turned out so badly, for you and for poor Zeke. All she is doing right now is giving herself an even worse name, and I guess it struck a nerve.

Feel free to delete my comment if it makes your life easier. It won't hurt my feelings. I just think it's completely insane for her to think you can't post about your own dog's health on your own wall or that her "vet" opinion from across the globe trumps your own vet and specialists. Then to try to silence and shame you publicly and imply that YOU are just trying to get a refund???? The gaul!

Wow, how sad and what a piece of work. I'm so sorry you're going through this and without breeder support. That sucks.

I don't think it makes much difference. I've known for weeks she won't give me my money back ever. I should post our private messages here for you all to read about how I am such a "disappointing person" and she doesn't know when our relationship got so bad. Clearly she's in denial. I've made it clear I was unhappy and even told her I couldn't come back to her for another pup nor recommend her to anyone else. I think that's when our relationship got bad. Oh well. She does not know enough about hip dysplasia to be breeding to be honest. Her "facts" are wrong and her vet is wrong. She has a dog so lame she has muscle atrophy but can't do X-rays because the dog is pregnant. How much do you want to bet the puppy buyers will never hear about mom being dead lame her whole pregnancy and longer?

But what can I do? A guy that owns another of her dogs nearby told me I should sue her and make sure she can never send another dog to the US. Lol. He was so mad when I told him what she said. But I'm pretty sure my only option would be international arbitration. Haha! Not happening, obviously. Lol. The reality is that the amount she owes me covers so little of what I've paid out that I just don't care. It really isn't even that much money. It would help of course, but the fight isn't worth it. The contract is only for half his purchase price unless I return him to her for a full refund (and I pay shipping which would mean I end up with less than half his purchase price and no dog...). She just made me an enemy and lost business. I guess she thinks she will always have buyers for her pups, so she can afford to make me mad. Maybe she will. My only other leverage is to go public on the vizsla boards but not sure I will ever do that. Maybe if his OFA results turn out poor and she still refuses. I think a truly quality breeder wouldn't even ask me to do that though. The ones I have asked have said if a puppy buyer went through what we have they would be refunding all of my money because I am a person they want to own their puppies. That's the other thing that gets me. She has said many times to me that she worries about the pups she sells and how they fare after leaving her. She has complained about other buyers and their breeding choices and care. And here I am neutering my way too tall, lame dog and she tells me he still could have been a show dog. I am taking him to rehab and acupuncture and she says I am doing optional things that I shouldn't be paying for and therefore running up my vet bills. And that if my vet is prescribing supplements and medications for his non-existent HD that I am being ripped off. What the heck? She should be so happy this dog landed in my house. He's getting more than most dogs and actually more than I give myself! She only says all I am doing is wrong because she doesn't want to admit she bred a subpar puppy and wants to hang on to all her money.

/vent.... Phew.

Back on the tail topic... He was/is covered in ingrown hairs. Once the swelling went back down and I was doing compresses to get the rest of the fluid out, I noticed the stubble being all black and rubbed one out. About 6-8x the length of the stubble sticking out was growing inside to a taper. Totally growing backward. I've spent the last two nights trying to get all of them plucked out with tweezers. There are a few more that are stuck under swollen skin, but I think I've pulled out about 50-60 hairs. How bizarre is that?!?

Wow, just in that round swollen spot? Or has this expanded elsewhere on the tail? Is that what those little black spots are in the picture above?

I thought Heather's post on FB was great. I wanted to blast the breeder directly under each of her posts and had to push away from the keyboard. Her true colors certainly came through for all to see. I'm sorry for all you've been through.

All in the one spot. It looks a lot more calm now. Still oozes with compressing, but better. I hope the hair all grows back normally.

Poor Zeke! A single ingrown hair is awful. I hate that he had a whole spot full of them.

It looks a lot better now. I was reading about this phenomenon and apparently it can recur. I hope we don't have chronic problems. One guy on a vizsla board said it can happen a lot and if it keeps happening to dock his tail shorter. Omg. That is just not happening.

Crazy! I hope it will be a one-time event due to clipper irritation that caused the inflammation and for the hairs to get stuck inside.

Sheesh! How do you check for it recurring once all the other hairs are grown back?? I hope it was just from the shave, too!

It still looks pretty swollen—is that from the plucking and general irritation, or is he still draining whatever was in there? Hope it all goes away, soon!
