No callous. I called Saturday am to ask if I should be worried. The skin is almost normal in color now, but the fluid persists. Tech said to bring him in. I just couldn't swing it that day so we have an appt tomorrow afternoon. I am hoping things will look better in the morning but I think we may need more antibiotics.
My mom brought me an omnishield wound dressing that promotes healing and kills bacteria using silver fibers in the dressing. Her horse has been dealing with a major injury for 7 months. So I was a little bit mean tonight. Smeared PB all over the fridge to distract and then poked about 30 holes all over the bump. He didn't even flinch. Good boy.
Put the dressing on and will check it in the morning. The clinical trials for this thing show complete wound healing in 2nd degree burns within 48 hours. My mom couldn't use it for her horse because after only 24 hrs he grew proud flesh all over his wound and they had to debride it (not fun). My hope is that by poking holes all over we will expose the bacteria inside and the dressing can help somehow. It was interesting to see which holes bled and which still had fluid. It seems there is just one major pocket of infection left.
I don't think Dr. B will charge me for a recheck, but at the same time, I just do not want to spend any more money. It's getting ridiculous. So if things look good in the morning I will cancel and keep up my own home treatment. It's hard to tell now which hairs are normal regrowth and what might be more ingrown ones. If it refills with fluid again despite my efforts we will go back for more antibiotics. So frustrating!
