I know there are good pano protocols out there, so hope you find one.

If he I till on doxy, wonder if the lack of limping I due to that.

I'm so happy that you know you can have him out and about to his tolerance at least. I'm also hoping he outgrows this very soon. Poor guy (and you!).

I'm so glad that you finally have a diagnosis and that he can be done with the crate rest and restriction!

What a relief to know WTF is going on! I'm glad it's such an obvious thing, once you see the imaging. Hope he gets over it all, soon!

I'm glad you have a clear path now! Any chance there are compounding issues beyond pano? Seems like it took a while to diagnose with any sense of accuracy.

Not a crisis, just adding this for my own notes (ODO is my unofficial dog record lol ) Zeke started a new round of Pano on the 5th. left front leg this time. Hoping it doesn't stick around for long. Hunt test is on the 22nd.

Sore again. Right hind. Started two days ago, but was faint. Solid favoring of the leg yesterday.

Ugh! When do dogs usually grow out of pano?

I'm sorry for you all, I can't believe the troubles he's had! I thought it stopped when the dog was done growing, or doesn't it work like that?

It can stop anytime. Most references say no older than 3 years. Oldest GSD recorded was 7. I think he has stopped adding height but might be adding girth to his bones. He is not a very thoughtful or intentional dog. He runs full tilt straight out of the gate. He plays like a crazy dog whipping and flailing around. He took off down a hill on our hike last week and I thought he was surely going to hurt himself. I need to figure out some training exercises that will help him gain self-control and thoughtfulness before he acts. Is that even possible?? Wondering if his diet has anything to do with his reckless energy. He was bitten by three ticks last week and I saw the first one because of the redness around it. So I refilled his old doxy prescription and am going to treat for tick diseases too. Just in case. And it should help the lameness anyway. He has really gotten grumpy about me paying attention to other dogs (not a good trait in a future training class demo dog) and today he was growling over the barrier between kennels at a couple dogs. I really am thinking neutering is on our agenda in the near future. I need to let him stop growing but it's become overwhelmingly clear that my life is not conducive to owning an intact male. Hoping we don't have to wait until two to get that done.

Busted tail again today. I think these two things are correlated. Restricted activity leads to rowdier greetings and that leads to busted tail. Sigh. Such a pain. He is a really good dog overall. Just needs to stop growing physical while also growing up mentally.

Could someone sew him a tail protector that is like a backwards jockstrap? Loops around the legs and a waist band holding a tub of fabric on his tail?

OMG! That would be funny! (Seriously, though, if you want to try something, send me tail length, tail diameter at base and tip and girth under his groin and I'll try to fashion something.) Poor Zeke! I feel so bad at the pano!
