a question about zinc and mineral balance

Postby LisaT_II » Wed Jun 25, 2014 7:30 pm

I am not sure I can explain this well, but this question has been bugging me.

Minerals are said to work best when some of them are in certain ratios. One of them, for example, is the ratio of zinc and copper (in humans I think it's supposed to be something like 10:1, but I haven't looked it up lately, so don't quote me!). In dogs, they have ratios too (haven't looked to see how they differ).

But, let's take many of the nordic breeds that need more zinc. For example, many Huskies do not store zinc and need additional zinc in their diets.

Does that mean that all these Huskies that are given extra zinc should have, say, extra copper? Or would the extra copper bind some of the extra zinc (or interfere with some of its absorption), so then they are not getting all the extra zinc and need even more.

Does the question make sense? Does anyone know?
