:( Roscoe's right hind is suddenly weak.

Postby Jen » Mon Nov 11, 2013 10:16 pm

All of a sudden, Roscoe's right hind leg is wobbly and unstable. He's fallen over twice tonight making a right turn. He almost fell over trying to lift his left leg to pee. When he sits, his right leg splays out. He's stepping on the top of his foot, and when I do the proprioception test of turning his foot upside down, he doesn't right it immediately. He does with his other feet.

Obviously, I'm calling the vet first thing in the morning, but what non-worrisome reasons might there be for this (I've got the worrisome reasons from rat poisoning to wobblers to more disc compression covered)?

He doesn't seem to be in pain like with his shoulder & back. It's more like it just isn't working correctly. He's still in a bouncy mood and high spirits and seems confused more than anything when his leg gives out.

Oh, and he just tried to scratch his ear as couldn't reach it just now as I was typing.

Oh no...I hope he's not got a torn ACL too. This almost sounds more like it's in the hip though. Hoping you find out it's something treatable and non-serious. Vibes...

Good thoughts! Cousteau has been wobbly in the hind end, complete with poor nerve response from time to time. We haven't been able to find anything medically wrong, but chiro and acupuncture have done a lot to help him. He's still wobbly and it's hard to see, but he's compensating.

I've got no ideas for you, just good thoughts for Roscoe.

Oliver's hind end is wobbly, but it's pretty much both sides and just general old age/loss of muscle. I hate seeing it, so I can imagine how you must feel.

I hope you get an answer along the lines of "nothing to worry about and here's what we do to improve his strength and control as much as possible. "

Good thoughts that this isn't serious.

He's much better today, but I've been watching and I think it's more because he's learned to compensate than that he's actually better. He's obsessively licking his front paws again, so I'm guessing nerve compression somewhere?

Of course, Dr. V is on vacation out of town with no cell service until Thursday. :( She does have wifi and is checking in once a day, so I'm hoping to hear back tonight.

Poor Roscoe! How's he now? Did you hear back from your vet yet? Sending healing vibes to his puppy butt. :(
