Not a victory of small toenails, but a small victory regarding toenails. Anyway...
Pixel's breeder started trimming nails from the first week they were born. We kept playing with his feet and trimmed a nail here and there and he just started to completely freak out. He was so upset that he wouldn't even eat peanut butter after the first snip. Nothing traumatic happened, he just hates it. (Came across something that said this is a breed trait. Joy.)
Since desensitizing him to nail trimming wasn't working, I decided to desensitize him to a muzzle so we could trim the nails safely - they were getting so long I was afraid he was going to get one caught and rip it. I also bought a new clipper, thinking the old one wasn't sharp enough.
I don't know what the deal was, but with a muzzle on, freeze dried beef stuff through the side, we were able to get his curled up dew claws, a couple of front nails, and an entire back paw!!!! He may have been able to handle more, but I thought we'd end on a happy note. And DH was getting stressed that his Pixel was unhappy.
I made sure to take just tiny bits so there was little chance of me quicking him. I'm just happy that we can actually do this and hopefully we can reach a point of acceptance as Havana has. He isn't bothered by me turning on the Dremel and running the handle over his body or leg, so maybe he'll like that better than the clipper. I know I do.
