He's Home

Postby my2cotons » Thu Aug 02, 2012 4:22 pm

He's home and doing ok. He is content in his pen for now. I'm sure that will change but now he just wants left alone. Of course Pappy is hating this already - wants brother to play, but I guess he will adjust. He drank a bunch of water right off, probably more than I should have let him have but it stayed down. Finally peed after we'd been home about an hour and he just now ate some of his supper. I thought that incision looked awfully long, but I didn't really know what to expect. He is carrying the leg exclusively right now which I expected. Wondering how he will poop, but I guess he will figure it out. Here are a few pics on photobucket:

I'm glad he's home; I'm sure you're relieved to have him back with you. Poor little guy looks worn out.

A sling might help hold him during a bowel movement? My experience is that it takes quite awhile for that first bowel movement after an anesthesia procedure.

Glad he's home, good luck with the recovery!

We had a good night. He slept in his crate with the door closed all night without a peep! Now if Pappy will just do that. :) I will work on him in that regard as soon as Pistol has recooped a little bit. He went out and peed - took all his pills and now he is resting again. So far so good. I know that hard part is going to be when he starts feeling better. I took Pappy for a fairly long walk because he has been driving me nuts. DH said Pistol whined in his pen for a few minutes after we left but then settled down. When he is better - maybe after the stitches come out, I'll get the stroller back out so he can have some outings. Thanks for all the good thoughts on our behalf. Just glad to have this phase at least over with.

Thanks all, I guess he is doing as well as he is suppose to be. Last night was rough. The first night he slept in his crate with it closed without a peep all night. Last night he whined off and on all night. He had had all his meds, but I gave him another pain pill at 4:30. I really think though that he just wanted on the bed with me. I guess the first night he was just too out of it to care. Last night he wanted out of the crate. I just got the new crates with the door on them so I haven't had a chance to get them trained to them yet. Other than that, he had a big poop this morning which I was glad of. It had been 48 hrs since his last one. That may also be what was bothering him last night. I had ordered an inflatable neck pillow for him instead of using the hard plastic kind. Well, wouldn't you know, it must have a hole in it. It won't hold air. So I guess I will order something else and see if they will take this one back. He is not licking constantly, but definitely does mess with it some. Anyway, I guess we will make it - but not the most fun we have ever had. :)

Hang in there Kathy! It won't be fun, but it will be worth it to have him healthy again :)

In the meantime, if you want to go for a homemade version, roll up a smallish towel, wrap it around his neck, and secure it with duct tape. That should work.
