Oliver is going to have bloodwork tomorrow to see how his kidneys are doing. He's been on the new diet from Sabine for awhile, but he had that vestibular episode where it was just important to get him to eat anything, so it's only been consistent for about 8 weeks. He *seems* like he's doing well - appetite and energy are good (for a 16 yr old dog), he's playing in the yard, bouncing around, etc. His urine is obviously more dilute, but he's only occasionally using the emergency pee pad I leave for him during the day, doesn't need to go out during the night, isn't drinking excessively, etc.
I really hope the tests show some improvement. If they don't, or if they show continued decline I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Part of me thinks that if his kidneys are continuing to decline then I'm going to go back to food he loves (he eats this recipe, but I think he finds it bland because he's only excited about it on liver nights) and just let him be happy as can be for as long as he can. The other part of me thinks I should continue with this diet and hope that any decline is slower because of it and it's helping somewhat even if he doesn't love it. I'm probably stressing needlessly, but I can't help it.
We could sure use some of those powerful ODO vibes for improved kidney numbers if you have any to spare.
