Update on Lady and her icky sores

Postby Michelle » Tue May 03, 2005 3:56 am

mainly posting so I can be the 1st to use this forum but thought I would let everyone know, we ended up takeing her to the vet as we decided that we needed some help since what we were doing was working but not well enough to keep up with the new sores as they formed. The vet gave us some pills (anti inflammatorys) and some stuff to clean the sores up with and today she is looking heaps better already! Yay!

Glad to hear that, Michelle. Did the vet say what the problem was?

The vet agrees with my theory of being allergic to the shampoo, since that is the only "new" thing and that she hasn't had any allergy problems before.

We haven't had any new sores in the last few days, so hopefully we are on the way to being better *crosses fingers*

Thats good news. I just wanted to say that when my vet gave me "antiinflamatories" when Stormy had his allergy they ended up being steroids. I found that out when I looked it up. My vet then told me that they call steroids antiinflamatories. I just wanted to mention this to you in case that is what you are giving and to tell you that the second vet that I saw told me I had to slowly wean the dog off the pills because it was a steroid (Timeral) which the first vet didn't tell me to do.

That is interesting, thanks for that!
I just did a search for this drug (Prednisolone) on the net and it is also a steroid! The vet gave the instructions to give every day for 5 days and then every 2nd day after that (5 more pills) I guess that could be for weaning off? by the sound of it this is only a pretty small dose for a short time period, I think she will be fine. Thanks again
