Scarlett update

Postby Kathleen » Fri Jan 30, 2009 4:17 pm

We had our Vet's visit this morning. After some discussion we decided to go with Previcox with Pepcid. I gave her a tablet this AM and she is already much better so, far so good with the stomach issues, keeping fingers crossed on that one. She also gave me a prescription drug for the stomach problems but it would be 60.00 a month to keep her on it so we are trying the pepcid first and hoping it will work. I do have some on hand just in case though.
She went down in the pasture with the other dogs today and is now snoring loudly in Quinn's crate. I am very happy she is moving better and I'm really hoping it continues.

Hi Kathleen - I have a "Scarlet" also!! :)
She's half sister to my Ashe, who i've had as a puppy.
They both had stomach issues a few weeks ago. Vet said to give them pepcid also. But the best thing is they were eating home cooked meals for a few weeks now and everyone is doing so much better. I've been treasuring this time not only because everyone is doing well, but because I don't have to hold my breath everytime I open a can of dog food wondering if it's going to be recalled.
Unfortunately, my cooking isn't a balanced diet(I don't know how to do that) so I'm slooowly introducing canned food back again.
I'm hoping everything goes well. But they sure bounced back with home cooked food & they loved it.

Hope your Scarlett continues to get better also.

Kathleen I just read your first thread on the reason you took Scarlett to the vet.

I thought she was having stomach issues that's why I responded with my food experience. I just wanted to clarify.. :D
I sure hope she feels better- 12 years old - that's great!!

Scarlett has a cast iron stomach normally but never could take the pain meds. I
m so happy that things are going well for her now. I have started adding pumpkin to her food too.

More Scarlett

I just got a call from the vet and her blood work came back fine. One of her liver values was high normal but still very good for a 12 year old dog.
I'm very happy about this there is always that uneasiness when you take an old dog to the Vet.
She is still doing great on the new meds so I'm doing the happy dance here tonight.
