Please pray for Bentley

Postby Sally » Wed May 11, 2005 12:08 am

I hate that it has to come to this....

Bentley has continually getting worse. What baby steps he took forward, his backward steps are gigantic. For the past two months, he has been getting regular vet care and isnt responding. We have been to different vets, but at this point we need to trust one person, and we are comfortable trusting our vet.

He has tested negative for the parasites he had, but he still has bloody stools, refuses food, vomits, etc etc on a daily basis. Too many symptoms and too many tests performed to mention. Sigh.

Bentley had a vet visit today and we have discussed with our vet. DH and I have decided to give him 3 weeks of full on vet care, a good faith try, getting meds and fluids and such, and if he doesn't respond we will send him to the rainbow bridge.

Bentley has basically stopped playing (whatever little he did), and seeks to be alone to curl up and sleep in a corner somewhere. We feel this will be the best for Bentley and to let him finally be at peace.

So if you guys could include him in your daily thoughts and prayers it will be greatly appreciated.

Sally, I'm sorry. This must be so devestating for you. You are doing everything that you possibly can and I hope in the end Bentley will come around.

This is the type of story that I want people to hear when they say "So what if I bought a puppy from a pet store?" Yeah, you could get a healthy pup, but if you don't, you risk being devestated as your family is being devestated. Bentley is lucky that you were there to take him in after his original owners dumped him.

Poor Bentley. My heart goes out to you Sally. He's so adorable in pictures; I can only imagine how sweet he must be in person. I'm so sorry this is happening. I'll say a prayer that he will come around and recover, but I'll also pray that if he doesn't, you will have strength and peace when he goes to the Bridge.

Thanks everyone.

Well as of today, he has been refusing any and all food since Sunday. Anything we are forcing, he is heaving to throw it up. Even plain chicken broth he is heaving and vomiting. Right now his gums and tongue is so pale and all he wants to do is sleep.

so as of now, it is up to Bentley and God. If Bentley wants to pull through, he will start eating. Or show me some kind of sign.

DH and I have agreed, no more stress for Bentley.

I am so sorry, Sally. I've been hoping and praying Bentley would respond to treatments. I just wonder what is going on with the poor baby.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, your DH, and Bentley.

i'm so sorry you had to make such plans. hopefully he will pull through, but even if he doesn't, your decision is right on.

three weeks is a good timeframe for at least something to change, and sometimes a little critter will just not thrive and it's better to let them go.

but for now let's hope something will "click" and he'll get better.

Well Bentley is spending the night at the vets office today. They are going to give him fluids and run bunch of tests. So far he has tested negative to parvo. But he tested positive for giardia again.

Sigh. I will post more tomorrow.

Thanks everyone.
