you need to experiment with bowel tolerance. excess is excreted in the urine, so there is no danger of toxicity.

start them out with 500 mg daily and slowly build up to 1000mg. if diarrhea occurs, cut back a little to the last dose that didn't affect stools. at times of stress you can increase the dosage, the body will really benefit from it. just make sure to build up slowly, or have some pumpkin on hand, since large doses of vitamin C are a natural laxative.

make sure you use a product that is made with ester C and bioflavonoids, they work together for maximum benefit.

Great thanks! I thought that 1000 was correct, but I wanted to make sure.

What is the difference between regular and Ester?

ester C is nonacidic, meaning it won't irritate the stomach.

Due to bowel intolerance and since excess is excreted, I give half dosage morning and evening.

I give a 500 chewable pill twice a day and have not had any issues... both dogs just gobble it up.

wow Jodie - you're lucky! I tried the chewable route and my dogs spit it out (after throwing wads of saliva).

my dog isn't much of a "pill eater" either, so i bought calcium ascorbate in powder form and add it to the food.
