Meet EElsen!

Postby Amanda » Thu Oct 30, 2014 9:49 pm

My brother and his wife have just volunteered as puppy raisers for our military! They picked up their Belgian Malinois pup today. He's 9 weeks old and a very confident little fellow. He is from the EE litter which is why they spell his name EElsen, but it's pronounced Elsen. This is a great program for a guy like my brother, who wants a Mal, but probably doesn't have the practical experience to know what it means to be owned by a Maligator. ;) EElsen will be staying with them for 4-6 months before going to the airbase to train as a "Guardian of the Night." Wish them luck. EElsen was already in another home, but it is suspected he was too much dog for this other family. They made a lot of excuses for not keeping him, but the topic of his extreme "confidence" came up a lot. If that turns out to the be the case for my brother, the team will come in to support him or place EElsen elsewhere if that's better for him. It sounds like a good training program. Anyway, here he is. :)

That's awesome! I wish them all the best with the little fella!

I also nominate "extreme confidence" as used in this context as the greatest understatement of the year. Oh, a Malinois puppy ... my life seems incredibly calm in comparison!

This sounds like a really great program. What a handsome fellow! Good luck to your brother and SIL with an "extremely confident" puppy. I love that description

Cute! I give anyone who is willing to deal with baby maligator HUGE props! And I must say, at least from my experience with Mals in the Midwest, supreme confidence is waaaaaaaaay prefered to "OMG! It's going to kill me! I'm going to die! I'm going to bark-attack and then hide."

OMG, he's adorkable with those ears! I'd have to nickname him Satellite!

Extreme confidence. Sounds like what my Akita boy Jack had. I'd rather have a confident dog than a fearful one. Extreme confidence: I learned quick. Thankfully, Akitas aren't high energy at all.
That, I got with The Ronanator. Best of luck to them! I recall lying in bed many a night and staring at the ceiling, wondering WHERE this dog got so much energy and HOW I was ever going to survive it. Lord, he'd SCREAM in his crate because he still wanted to do stuff. Walks, runs, didn't phase him. He didn't have the "YES! I can do that!" attitude of a Mal for obedience. Noooo. No ball drive or food drive. Just mischief drive. That's when i had to find ways to mentally wear him out before The Ronanator killed us all with boundless, mischievous, 18-hr a day energy. Heck, I finally repaired the walls he chewed as a pup just a year or two ago. Mental stimulation, and lots of it, saved us from ripping our hair out.

A baby Mal! They get the gold star of the day!

But what a truly great program!
