Max's day at grandma's

Postby maxs_mommy » Sat Apr 26, 2014 8:06 pm

Max spent the late morning and afternoon hanging at my parents garage while we went to my grandma's 80th birthday with all the fam. Today was a little rainy so we slapped on his thundershirt, dosed him with benedryl, 2 composures, as well as 100mg of l-theanine a treat ball, his bed and water.

We put him in the garage because if he tried to scratch anything like door frame, it wouldn't be in the house. Also, he is a bully to Izzy, the resident old queen dog they have. My dad left for home shortly after the party broke up, knowing Max was in the garage. He found Max in the garage with this... and I am absolutely mortified and exhausted by it all at the same time. Dad says it's NBD but I think from now on we'll just find a friend to let him out instead of leave him. Man I wish he would crate without trying to kill himself getting out.

He almost made it through the hollow door and the hole is about his size.

Oh wow! I can see why you would be exhausted from managing Max all the time! Where does he stay when you and S are both at work?

At home he's fine. He counter surfs but we've been trained and he sleeps all day where ever he wants, NBD. When it t-storms he crawls under a bed or the couch and sleeps. He doesn't kill the cat, he's long since stopped foraging for food (most of the time). He just hangs out. I don't know what it is about not having the run of things (apparently) but it drives him nuts, not to mention being stressed in a different place. Sheesh.

Oh my goodness. Your dad is more gracious than mine. I'd be buying and installing a new door and still hearing about it two years from now. I can't help but feel bad for Max. That's a lot of anxiety to push through the benadryl and homeopathics. I guess leaving him home is the better solution even though that probably means he'd be alone longer. :(

Oh, poor guy!! Your dad's a good person. Most interior doors are NBD to replace, but I know how you feel!

Sounds like home is the best option :( I hope he recovers quickly.

oh no. poor ... everybody. I have lived with that level of anxiety (my boy left me doors like that plus blood and feces a few times) and it is exhausting.

Poor Max! I hope you're able to find a more comfortable solution for him. It's got to frustrating.

You have my sympathy. Alex hates being crated and has recently become reliable when left loose, but only when Rowley is there. If I take Rowley to agility and leave Alex home, Alex freaks. I'm sure hoping he grows out of it, because as you know all too well, the management is a PITA.

Aw, poor Max. I know what that's like. When I had Norman I moved to a different house. He never managed to relax. he destroyed 3 doors trying to get out, plus multiple pieces of furniture, baseboards, etc. I never found a solution and he never got comfortable in that house. It was heartbreaking to know he was that upset there.

Yankee, apparently my dad already is. He took a marker and wrote "Max was here" with a down arrow over the hole. It's all fixed now but sheesh.
