NDR: spider cake

Postby Jen » Sun Dec 18, 2011 11:15 pm

I bet the bakery doesn't get many requests for spider shaped birthday cakes! This is what my 5 year old niece wanted for her party.

with two eyes, LOL

What kind of cake is it? and are the legs edible? Looks like something I would have asked for.

a little off topic... I never take good pictures, cameras freak me out, so I was searching through files of photos looking of a decent one of me to blow up and give to my mother for xmas (that's the sort of thing she appreciates!) - and the ONLY decent photos, save one or two, was of me inspecting a snail, me inspecting an abnormally large slug, and me smiling happily at the camera... with a small ocean fish stuck to the front of my shirt. So, yes, I think I can identify with your niece!

Those are its pedipalps. :D I was impressed they added those.

Niece was given the face but she was a little too creeped out to eat it. lol

It was chocolate with fudge filling and buttercream frosting. So yummy! And just a "grocery store cake." Apparently SIL went to a party with a turtle cake from Thriftway, so she asked them if they could do a spider. They don't just stick to a catalog of square cakes like most grocery stores. Not bad! Plus it tasted better than some bakery cakes I've had.

The legs are chocolate with frosting on them. Each kid got to eat a spider leg (or pedipalp ;) ), much to their delight.

That's so cool! How nice that your local grocery store was able and willing to do that cake! Your niece is officially a very cool kid :D
