FLY AWAY FIELD PRESENTS
HERDING INSTINCT TEST DAY
Fly Away Field: 903 Lewisville Rd Oxford PA 19363
Date: Saturday May 9, 2015
Time: 10AM to 5PM
Cost: $50/dog - $45 second dog same owner
Tester: Chris Davies
This test will be conducted in a 90” round pen with 3 very seasoned sheep.
There will be an explanation before the test of what will happen during the test
and what the tester is looking for in the dog. There will also be a questions
period after the test.
I have been training herding dogs for the last twenty plus years. I have put titles
(Started through Advanced, WTCH’s and HTCH’s) on many different breeds of
dogs. My Aussies and I have made it to the ASCA National Stockdog Finals and
have placed in the top ten. My students and I have titled dogs in all three
venues: AKC, ASCA and AHBA. Here are a few of the breeds I have trained;
Aussies, Border Collies, Poodles, Schnauzers, Bouvier, Samoyed, Bernese Mt
Dogs, Corgi's, Shelties, GSD, Norwegian Buhund and mixed breeds. I have been a
judge for the AHBA for the past fifteen years. For the past thirteen years I have
been doing clinics, seminars and lessons on the East Coast. Thirteen years ago, I
purchased my own field where I keep both sheep and ducks and regularly hosts
clinics and lessons and trials. My approach to training is that one size Does Not
fit all. I like to develop training methods that fit each dog and handler team.
Come see if your dog can do what it’s ancestors did. It’s a thrill to see your
dog’s “light bulb” go on when it realizes that it can in fact herd the sheep.
Even more thrilling is seeing the huge smiles on the faces of owners as they see
their dogs figure out herding.
Fly Away Field is a working farm where sheep and ducks are raised for the
purpose of working with dogs in training.
I have people from all walks of life come to the farm to work with their dogs on
sheep and ducks. They come to learn herding herding and most end up taking
part in the camaraderie of like-minded folks who want to do something totally
special with their canine best friend and do it in the fresh air and great outdoors
of rural Pennsylvania.
