New AKC Sport for all/mixed breeds: Coursing Ability Test

Postby Sabine » Mon Jan 24, 2011 12:10 am

Effective February 15 2011 AKC has a new companion event open to all breeds and mixed breds: the COursing Ability Test

From the 01/2011 BOD Meeting Minutes, scroll down to pages 10-12:
http://www.akc.org/pdfs/about/board_minutes/0111.pdf

This is neat, since lure coursing is and will remain limited to specific breeds.

Especially nice: dogs will run singly, so there is no issue with interference and the sport will be suitable for reactive dogs as well. :)

I'm too disgruntled over the continued snubbing of Cresteds for Coursing events to give credit even where it may be due.
Tell me again how these aren't Toy sighthounds? I'd even accept the same restricted access IGs have.

OMG, Ella would *love* this. Especially the part where she runs by herself.

Qbert-the running cresteds are gorgeous! They remind me of a rabbit/horse cross. it's the fluff.

I definetly think cresteds are a lion-horse-hound cross.

In essence they are made up of a dash of Toy sighthound, a dash of terrier, a sprinkle of fairy dust, and a pinch of "omg it looks like a MyLittlePony!"
also, that spotted hover puppy has The Best Name Ever. That's Mac. His registered name is "There's an App For That."

First of all, OMG MY LITTLE PONY! lol

and secondly, I just read like all of those minutes. How incredibly dull!! I think I'd like to do some coursing with the Soda. I bet she'd lerv it.

Elsie would KILL to lure course!! The JRT club around here occasionally has an 'all breed fun day', so maybe I'll keep an eye out this summer and let her run... (she's not totally sound, but she survives some pretty heavy duty ball-playing, so hopefully coursing won't take her out...)

I don't see that the clubs around here (Florida and Georgia) are offering the class. I guess it's like the mixed breeds in Obedience - they don't HAVE to offer the class. Sigh. I'll hold out, because I'd love to get titles on Dora and Smidgen. (OE and Spud aren't eligible).

Katie, the announcement only came in this month's board minutes, and events have to be scheduled with AKC so far in advance that the clubs probably didn't know.

When events were first opened to mixed breeds, it took quite a while to get the momentum going, but now even most of the big Bradshaw-superintended shows in my area opt to permit mixed breeds, including the ones preceding the Eukanuba Championship and Obedience/Agility invitationals in Long Beach last December.
