Monica Segal's new book? (Optimal Nutrition)

Postby MaisyPancakes » Sun Mar 18, 2007 10:01 am

Has anyone read this? I'm curious about her work in general and am on the Yahoo list (I just lurk)--but I'm primarily interested in the 2006 NRC data that's supposed to be in this new book. Some of the booklets seem intersting too.

I'd love to hear what you guys think of her writings. Thanks!

I have her first book and all of her booklets. I think she is very knowledgeable. I must confess, when she gets real technical, she looses me!

I haven't read her new book, though. I do plan to.

I have the enhancing the commercial diet booklet...the homecooked booklet and the raw booklet.
I also have the myth behind the hype booklet. they are easy reads. but I do agree I get lost with the online posts.

Btw, Nana - I own a copy of the 2006 NRC publication. If you have any specific interests, let me know and I'll look things up for you. It's just not the type of book that you'd read from cover to cover. :fie: lol

You rock, Mordy! I'm looking for the "chart," so to speak, though--if there is such a thing. I think that's kind of a big request--eek. So, seriously, don't feel pressured, please.

I want to "update" my spreadsheets of MP's basic recipes with the updated numbers. All I know is that you have to multiply the given "number" to the body weight to the power of .75...right?

I've found just a few of the Vitamins (Bs, E, A) and some minerals (Sodium, Chloride, Iron, Selenium) by searching the Yahoo list, which was a major PIA. The list also had a link to a PDF of "slides" (that's what the list was calling them) on Protein and Amino Acids that don't have dates on them or anything; I don't recall if it's something that I should use, or if someone just found it and posted it.

What do you think of MS in general, Mordy? I know that she bases her recipes on numbers a lot more than others, but I get just a liiiiitle weirded out about the fact that she sells her own supplements. :hmm:

Reason: Added note to Mordy without appearing passive-aggressive.

I know you didn't ask me, but... I used her for Quinn when I got him (Lilian wasn't doing it yet) and I will say she never pushed her products and gave suggestions of several different companies to get the supplements I needed from.

I found her booklets very helpful..."Feeding Older Dogs", "The Allergy Problem" and "Canine Cancer". :)
