I've read through chapter 12 so far and love it. What a great book for anyone to train a puppy (or even an adult dog, e.g. a rescue without much/any previous training), not just for performance.

One thing that stands out and is very important to me is that Leslie emphasizes to not fall prey to your own ambitions (like many dog sport people raising their next performance prospect tend to do) and give the puppy plenty of time to "just be a dog".

I loved CU for its specific approach to resolve existing issues, but this puppy book is about foundation training and prevention instead of problem solving, and it came at a perfect time for me. I've read about 5 or 6 books on puppy training in the last 8 weeks and this one and Sheila Booth's "Purely Positive Training" really stand out from the rest.

My friend just found out she will be getting a Dutch Shepherd puppy in 2 weeks. He's "pet" quality and not protection (would rather try to get his siblings to chase him with a ball in his mouth, but they're too busy biting various French Ring items to bother), but he's still going to be a handful. I'm buying her this book!
