"Do Border Collies Dream of Sheep?"

Postby connie » Tue May 24, 2011 8:27 am

This is a lovely book, written by Denise Wall and Carol Lea Benjamin.

Wall has a small working sheep farm and occasionally breeds one of her BCs; she sent a pup from a recent litter to Benjamin, a dog trainer who lives in NY, to be a service dog for Benjamin. Wall herself kept a puppy from the litter and trained it as a working sheepdog.

The book is about the parallel lives of the littermates, and has enough adorable-puppy chapters in it to be completely charming. The way Benjamin's service dog takes to her job is impressive and heartwarming.

This isn't just for Border Collie people, it's a nice read for anyone who likes dogs. Actually, I thought of Amanda when I read it because of her love for training service dogs! :)

I've had it for a couple of weeks and have yet to start it. I can't wait, though!

I'm getting ready to order a copy - did you guys get the color or b&w version?

Side note... I'm getting a May puppy in a few weeks (May, from the book, that Denise kept).

I got the b&w but I'd probably order the color, it's worth the extra cost.

Wonderful, lucky you to be getting a May puppy!

OK, ordered the color version. I also got all fired up and started loading up my cart with other books before I got ahold of myself. I obviously have very little self control.

Carol Lea Benjamin's book, "Second Hand Dog" was my bible when I was doing the adoptions for The Amanda Foundation.

Sounds like a fun read!

I really hope the title means to reference Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Because the idea of border collie worlds and sci fi worlds colliding makes me

Amanda, yep, it's on Amazon.

Jen, that is one of my brother's favorite books, or maybe I'm thinking of "The Sheep Look Up." rofl
