Everyone should read "Don't Shoot the Dog"

Postby Jen » Fri Feb 17, 2006 11:45 pm

I mean everyone , not just dog owners or pet owners. For sure, it should be handed out to every pet adopter. But I think all teachers should be required to read it, all coaches, anyone who's going into a profession that requires dealing with people, , everyone!

Every once in a while I'd think "Oh, yeah, I do that with x" or "Oh, I don't do that with x" and then "That's why it's working or not working."

I so get it now.

I'll bring you "Lads before the wind" today Jen it is Karens book about her early years as a Dolphin trainer. She mentions at the end how "Don't shoot the dog" wasn't supposed to be about dog training but about using operant conditioning in your life.

I'm halfway done with this book, Kathleen. It's wonderful. Except for when I have to feel sad for the porpoises that die shortly after being captured.
