I am looking at boarding my dog for a couple of days and ran into this statement in an article about boarding your pet. I find it hard to believe that my dog cannot tell the difference from me being gone five minutes or five days. Does anyone know?

I think they make statements like that to assure you that your dog won't sit there waiting for your return. After a few minutes, 99% of all dogs will settle into the kennel environment and will be fine. There are a few that will pine and starve themselves until you return, but that's few and far between.
