When is a kong no longer salvagable?

Postby AmyB » Thu May 05, 2005 7:38 am

I just discovered yesterday that Mac had left his kong outside (he takes it out with him and forgets about it), and once I finally discovered it, it was furry inside (some bits of food were still in there). I've soaped and scrubbed the heck out of it with antibacterial dish soap, but there are still little black spots on/in the rubber. Right now I've got it soaking in vinegar.

Anyone had a similar situation and continued using the kong?

Yep, guilty. I found a kong under the couch with a little bit of black yogurt and blueberries in it. Yuck! I soaked it on two separate days and ended up washing it in the dishwasher a few times. It still looks a little stained but it doesn't smell or anything but who knows if the stain is from mold or the blueberries. None of the dogs have cared though.

Isn't finding treasures like that lovely?

use a wire bottle brush.

stick it in the small opening and scrub back and forth a few times. make sure you soaked the kong for a while before you do this, so anything stuck to it comes off easily. then you can stick it in the dishwasher for a final cleanup.

Oh yuck. We haven't had any bad messes in Jasmine's Kong, thank goodness. I need to buy some stuff to put in it!

Geez - my experience is so much the opposite. M won't play with hers at all. It's pristine.
