I'm still around!

Postby Trademarkbark » Mon Feb 29, 2016 12:02 pm

I find it harder these days to get to ODO to visit, so I guess it's time for an update for those not on Facebook.

Beastie finished her AKC Championship in January, and had already finished her UKC Championship, both before 1 year of age. She will start working towards her Grand Champion in both registries as finances and time allow.

Grytz and OE are showing in AKC Conformation now the the breed is full status (as of January).

Spud is just chilling, being the alpha bitch and running the household.

Last month, I got a new dog. Basically, I got her to train as a service dog for my Army veteran boyfriend with PTSD and balance issues, but I will be her co-owner and co-handler in cases where he needs assistance and she has to come get me for "people help". Her name is Roxy and she is a coated standard Xoloitzcuintli (aka the Mexican Hairless Dog). She will be showing in conformation as a form of socialization while she matures, but will be his constant companion once she is fully trained (in about a year).

Sorry, I just saw this. They have a single layer, flat coat, much like my coated AHTs and Rat, so no allergy issues for me. I can wipe her down just like them when she comes in and the pollens and other ickies from outside don't have anywhere to hide.

There aren't any other hairless breeds that interest me, so that's it for hairy hairless dogs. lol

I have been eyeing the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno, so possibly one of them in the distant future. I am definitely considering going with another coated Xolo when Spud and/or OE are gone. I am really impressed with the breed -- they are very similar to the Collies.

I'm not planning on anything happening to Spud or OE, but they both do have the liver dysfunction, and Spud actually has a borderline shunt, so I have to be prepared to the worst -- sadly, it could happen with very little notice. I feed them a liver support diet and do bloodwork to confirm there aren't any signs of failure, but otherwise it's a wait and see type of thing. :(
