Some of you already know that I'm taking Dax to the JRTCA Nationals this week. While I often used to visit the big international dog shows while I still lived in Germany, I haven't been to such a huge event with a dog of my own entered. I'm super excited and nervous. Luckily Sherri will be there (with handsome Mac!) to hold my newbie hand.
We'll fly into IAD Thursday evening, pick up a rental car, and then drive to Hagerstown, MD. The event is at the Washington Co. Agricultural Center in Boonsboro. On Friday we are entered for racing, sub-novice obedience, rally I, and thunder tunnel
. On Saturday we'll do conformation (suitability to red fox, suitability to raccoon/badger), go to ground and super earth (both in the championship class), thunder tunnel, and brush hunt. On Sunday it's conformation (open class), trailing & locating, brush hunt, and lure coursing.
With exception of the thunder tunnel none of the activities are new to us, but everything is on a much bigger scale than at any of the JRTCA trials we've been to so far. I hope it won't be too difficult to be in the right place at the right time all 3 days!
On Monday there will be a short break, and on Tuesday we'll do an entirely new thing: Dax gets to go hunting! I'm very, very grateful that Sherri offered me this opportunity, and I can't wait to see my dog do what he was bred to do in an entirely natural setting (vs. artificial tunnels, brush hunt setups etc.).
Less than 48 hours to go before we are outta here!
