Transport question

Postby connie » Sun Jan 13, 2013 7:36 pm

Okay, I have fallen in love with a dog that is in the shelter in Surrey, BC, where Sheena (Food Lady of WooTube) works. I really would adopt this boy in a second; he's a Sheltie cross with probably some BC in him. But I am NOT driving to British Columbia from Chicago -- and back -- to get him. It's totally impossible.

Is there any way to get him here that doesn't involve transporting him with strangers on a 20-stage journey, does anyone know? I don't want him shipped in the cargo hold of a plane either. :(

Brilliant solution sought! TIA!

Is there anyone from your area going to Clicker Expo in San Francisco, who could meet up with someone from BC going to Clicker Expo? I know three people from here that are going - not sure if they could pick up a dog in Surrey, but there's bound to be people from that area going too.

Or, if anyone knows a long distance trucker who travels across Canada or across the States - sometimes they will transport a dog.

They won't do transport-- you have to go . Oh wait-- at their shelter not part of the herding dog rescue?

I looked at P&P, Sherri -- I think a more feasible option, given the distance, is to just do commercial transport. We'll see. The dog just came off stray hold and Sheena will be checking him out more this week.

Facebook link doesn't work for me, even though I am signed up to facebook now (not that I use it - just signed up in order to bid on an online auction for one of the rescues I support). Is there some secret to viewing it via the link? Do you have to be a friend of whatever page it is on?

Connie, this isn't a 14 year old deaf sheltie, is it? I was told about one recently (I've since brought to the attention of sheltie rescue), but I didn't think it was a stray - owner died.

Jean, no, but I saw the deaf senior -- looks like a sweetie.

Let's see if I can grab the photo and post it here, since it was on Sheena's page and she's probably got privacy settings in place. This dog is between 2 and 4 years of age, they think, and he needs to take some weight off (!!) -- maybe he should walk to Chicago!

He's gorgeous! Hard to believe no one is looking for him - I will never understand people who don't look under every bush and stone and in every shelter when their dog goes missing.
He looks like such a happy boy. Hmmm....I'm closer....maybe I can go steal him out from under you! (Just joking - I have a full house for the next few months).

I know, he's such a cutie! He would fit in here so well, that is if he's cool with other dogs, which Sheena is testing. Nice raw diet, salmon oil for the coat, *exercise* with the Busy Boyz, he'll be looking and feeling much better soon. Looks like another dog who will hate the summer months and love the a/c, like Mike.

Wow - he is gorgeous!

I think you should come on a field trip to Vancouver ;) But in all seriousness, I'm really very close by, and kind-of-sort-of know Sheena (she took photos of N&S two years ago) so if there's anything I can do to help, just let me know :D

Definitely! Connie and all the hooligans need to make a road trip to Vancouver - I'd even take the darn ferry and face the mainland traffic to join the party!

Okay! I will need a month off work -- with pay -- and a motor home! A friend has already offered to ride shotgun, so just those two minor items remain.
