Re: Cognitive Dysfunction/Barking

Just e mailed the vet, she said there wasn't side effects to the wanderer herb, to give twice a day. She also mentioned trying kava after 4 days or so if the herb isn't helping. I think we've got some of the orange ear plugs out in the shop for when your doing noisy stuff, seriously thinking of hunt...

Re: Cognitive Dysfunction/Barking

Will have to get a urine sample into the vet, that's the only thing we haven't done. Also am doing melatonin. Is choline a prescription. I did a search on line last week and read to give 20 to 40 mg 1-2 times a day or 0.5 -1mg per pound of dogs weight. He was on a round of simplicef for the ears fir...

Forgot to mention he does experience tremors, so the vet has us giving him gabapentin every 8 hours to help with the that and also for pain relief for joints.

Cognitive Dysfunction/Barking

Smokey is 13 now and seems to be suffering from cognitive dysfunction/anxiety. I did a search before posting a new topic, just wondered if anyone has anything new to suggest as most of the posts were a little old, even though it is still relevant. His symptoms started during the summer, windows open...

Oh, the kong peanut butter thing didn't do much, he sort of licked it, didn't seem to want to chew. So will have to try the suggestions posted above.

Re: Problem child Smokey

We'll have to try what you both recommend, Calypso and Jen. And no Jen, to answer your question Bill doesn't pay much attention to Smokey, wants to be left alone and sit and chill out on the computer. I'm sure Smoke is trying to let Bill know that he doesn't like the cold shoulder and wants just a l...

Re: Pooping Licorice

Good ideas. She kept us busy making frequents trips in the wee hours yesterday, then when it was light Bill could see that poop was runny. By then I'd already fed her breakfast, which made her trot for hours after. So started to fast her, just gave liquids, broth. She slept for hours yesterday after...

Problem child Smokey

Ok so our other problem is Smokey. He's a pill in the evening when Bill gets home from work. He's fine all day, not left alone. Lucky dogs have a stay at home mom LOL. Seems to be an attention seeking behavior on Smokey's part. He is either by our chairs, wants petting constantly, paws at you if you...

Pooping Licorice

We've been having trouble for a long time now with her pooping in the house. It either happens in the middle of the night early morning when we're asleep. The only way we know there is a problem is some whining, a bit of pacing, then we finally drag ourselves out of bed, often times it's too late an...

Re: Sarah has Cancer

Taffy did well on the Neoplasene, bought her more time, was the least invasive treatment. We were able to manage her pain. Did you have her x rayed to make sure she doesn't have any mass inside? That complicated Taffy case as it wasn't just her tongue that was involved. She also had the oral NP in h...

Re: Just For Dogs Pet Food - Sabine Go Check This One Out

Oh, duh, today is Monday, I bet it was this last weekend they had the open house, hence why I saw the promo on T"V. Interesting too the company has a veterinarian on staff, that's a rare breed to go for real food for dogs.

Re: Just For Dogs Pet Food - Sabine Go Check This One Out

Ok, so I looked it up. Address is 7870 Santa Monica Blvd. West Hollywood, Ca. Site I found also had one in Newport Beach, so maybe this is not a totally new company, maybe this is a 2nd location opening in West Hollywood. Here is the link to the site, there is a veterinarian on staff. Take a look fo...

Just For Dogs Pet Food - Sabine Go Check This One Out

Just saw this on KTLA News. It's called Just For Dogs, grand opening is today. Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood. The spot showed fresh meats, fish, said they were devoted to nutrition for dogs. Newswoman mentioned at the end that they would even offer classes on how to prepare. Showed bags of fo...

The Lost Dogs by Jim Gorant

I just read this one on my ipad - e book from the LA library- Free! The Lost Dogs is the story of Michael Vicks dogs. I don't think this is a recent publication, but it gives the facts of the raid on his place, then goes into the dogs seized, evaluations of the dogs, and the people and rescue groups...

Yep, wait seems to be the feeling of all. Even tempted Bill with talk of dogs at shelters, he didn't go for it. Hope he's given up the bored browsing at work, he'd call me 40 times a day telling me of this one or that, and I'd go Are you getting any work done? Yes, he'd say and I'd reply doesn't see...

Yes, Sabine is always the voice of reason and I think she's right about not adding a youngster into the mix. The aggressive Golden was taken. We went out again to the Baldwin Park shelter again yesterday. They'd had puppies, which they said were Goldens, which after seeing them I not so sure they really were. Thought sure I'd be riding home with a puppy on my lap (: Took us an hour to get out there, find o...

Sale coming up at LA Shelters

Sept. 29, the LA shelter's are reducing adoption rates... just that one day, I don't know? $19.00 and some change, don't remember now the exact price, going rate now is $50 with $50 more if the animal needs fixing. Bill says oh, for the price of one you can get two on sale. I'm pretty sure I gave hi...

So naturally having lost Taffy, we see Golden's all over the place, alot of them on TV in commercials. Been looking at various shelter sites, they are such sweet dogs- I hate looking knowing that they have such a high incidence of cancer due to being so closely bred to relatives. We found a blog wri...

Re: Taffy is gone. We've lost our sweet girl.

Smokey always had to out do Taffy. She'd pee, then he'd cover it, but I like to think he was marking her as his, she was his girl. We could use your prayers right about now, Bill is taking it hard since Taffy and Licorice were bff's, - Licorice considers Bill her's and vice versa. We're in the house...

Taffy is gone. We've lost our sweet girl.

We let Taffy go late this afternoon. She hadn't been doing real well this last month, didn't want to eat, would cry biting down on food, oozed blood off and on from the tongue. I'd made an appointment with our vet earlier in the week, which we thought was going to be more along the lines of a check ...

Ok, so got the second results back. She's still allergic to almost everything. Only things that got added back to her lists of foods, with negative or weak reactions was beef - that's a surprise really, lamb, egg, corn and soy. And we all know that corn is not the best ingredient to feed, but maybe ...

Re: Taffy allergic to EVERYTHING

I looked on his web site the other day, didn't see that he had any in stock. I'd talked to him before and he said sometimes he had it. However my vet says that the saliva test is invalid because she'd eaten before hand, so she said I didn't have to worry about feeding goat. I took her in & the vet cl...

She did find an old one out in the yard a few weeks ago & wanted a go at it, but I took it away for fear it'd give her an infection. Poor g...

I've thought about trying that myself in the past, glad to know, at least I didn't try it and make a goopy mess. Wonder if you could use Aquaphor ?- I use that when I get really flaky & dry. It's basically mineral oil, lanolin & vasoline - Wal Mart sells an Equate generic. You need to use it with a ...

Found out after the fact that you need to do the test when they haven't eaten for 3 hours. Taffy had a half can of Wellness Venison with a dab of Lamb Stew . No where on the directions of the thing do I remember it saying not to feed them before hand. My Holistic vet got involved, called Dr. Dodd's,...

Cooked Bones Question

So to feed bones to a dog, they have to be raw? The dog we had when I was a kid always got the bone from the barbequed chuck steak, and probably from chuck roasts. After we ate all we could off the bones, the dog got it as it was, cooked. Never had any adverse effects to her that we knew of. I'm won...
