Smokey diarrhea over 24 hrs

Smokey is 15 now. We let him have the roam of the house. At his age he's not destructive although maybe we should pen him up when we leave- he has had pee incidents in the past. Friday I was out and came home, found him in my sons room. He'd gone down, maybe fell then couldn't get up- he'd scooted h...

Re: Hemopet results and eating cat poop

Yes we did add digestive enzyme . We threw out the food she was eating decided it had gone bad, got a new batch and her tummy settled down. She had to go out a couple of times last night, but she'd had a late dinner and probably needed more time outside. But Smokey has been sick. Hope what he's had ...

Re: Hemopet results and eating cat poop

So Lisa T, are the food sensitivities likely to be allergens? For instance we can buy the ready made lamb meal which has foods she is not sensitive to, although it does include their brand of fish oil which source is white fish. Don't know how much ready made would bother her if she just has a sensi...

Re: Hemopet results and eating cat poop

Yes, rabbit is on the safe list, not real easy to find but we found boxes of it when we went through the same thing with Taffy. Bison though it said was ok as long as beef was not reactive, but she had an intermediate reaction to beef, so that rules out Bison. We finally found a source for lamb at a...

Re: Hemopet results and eating cat poop

I did read about several people posting about their dogs coming out with cat litter stuck to their noses. I have sliding bathroom doors so will try shutting them with just a crack for the cat to get in and hopefully I can keep Lady out.

Hemopet results and eating cat poop

So we did the Nutrascan saliva test on Lady. She is allergic to beef, chicken, duck, turkey, white fish, venison, corn, milk, wheat So that leaves us with goat, lamb, pork, salmon, soy for protein sources. Grains she's not allergic to. Then tonight we couldn't find her anywhere, she didn't come when...

Re: Thyroid and Lady

I'm so confused about the thyroid. Had her to hemopet which ran a complete panel, thought she was low thyroid at the visit, but then after getting complete results he said she was ok. I'm going to have question vet again.

Re: Lady severe allergy & need a good vet

We're in Canoga Park, west San Fernando valley. Haven't tried the vetericyn. I had some Parma soothe, which was expired, seemed sort of thick, sprayed it on her & made it worse. Will have to check the date on the vetericyn, got them both at the same time. Been using silver sulfidyne 1%. Helping some...

Re: Lady severe allergy & need a good vet

I give her 2 Benadryl morning and night. Haven't tried Zyrtec, what would the dose for a 55 lb dog be. Zyrtec is the only thing that works for my allergies. Don't see any relief from Benadryl, she did Atarax, which was no help, the vet we saw seemed more concerned with the reverse sneezing, which ha...

Lady severe allergy & need a good vet

Lady has a serious red rash on her belly and her ankles look pink. Ordering Dr, Dodds Nutrascan. I called our vet yesterday to make an appointment only to be told Sally Lane was no longer there, got an evasive answer when I asked where she was. They didn't know. Same thing at Sherman oaks Veterinary...

Re: Gentle Giants Dog Food

Saw him again this morning on KTTV Fox 11 this time. He said something about his food not coated with oil and claimed his dogs were living double their normal lifespans on his food. Some of the stuff he said made sense. Talked about feeding in elevated bowls, avoiding bloat by not exercising an hour...

Re: Prescription for Noise Anxiety?

I wonder if you used Sileo for certain stressful situations if it would help to desensitize the dog over time. Lady didn't like the fireworks, just wanted to go hide, did some pacing. When fireworks were were really going on, I crated her & Smokey, then never heard a peep or fidget out of either- so...

Re: Thyroid and Lady

The vet hasn't said anything about her thyroid, she's young pretty busy there, double booked situation, so I'll have to give her a call and see what she says. Interesting thing is our old guy Smokey. Just had blood work done on him. He's had tummy trouble lately, threw up a few times. Vet said to giv...

I'm trying to understand her blood test: T4 0.6 (Low) Reference range 0.8-3.5 ug/dl Free T4 Equilibrium Dialysis 14.0 reference range 8-40 Took Lady back to the vet this morning for recheck, lungs were clear, cough gone so ok on that score. She is looking for a weight gain of say 4 lbs over the next...

Re: Over Kill on Antibiotics?

Yeah, guess your right Judy. She does have periods of exertion, then sleep so she is still fighting off a bug. I didn't think of the bronchitis as a secondary infection, that does take a good dose of abx.

Re: Checking in -4th of July edition

I ended up crating both dogs, didn't hear a peep out of either after that. They must have settled down and gone to sleep as I didn't hear any restless pups in the crates. Had the house shut up, air, TV going. There were a few blasts that made me jump, sounded like they were in my front yard when the...

Over Kill on Antibiotics?

I'm questioning the load of abx Lady is on. She was coming down with the kennel cough or bronchitis on June 25 when we got her. The 27th she was given Clavamox 10 day course. Then two days later when she was worse we took her in for x Ray, then given Baytril on top of the Clavamox. Tomorrow is a wee...

What is she doing? Chewing Paws. Habit, boredom, allergies?

Lady chews her whole paws, one at a time. Puts her whole paw in her mouth, then will pull on her paw and then lick her pads. Taffy chewed her paws from allergies, but she nibbled on her paws. Have never seen a dog do this, it's like when babies are a few months old they stick feet or fists in their ...

Re: Feeding New Baby Lady, questions, what to do?

Well it appears she doesn't like my cooking - I've had complaints from the two legged male here. Added 1/3 of a can of Evo mixed in with what she left and she cleaned it up. Smokey hated pork when we first started cooking meals for him. Just food for Dogs has a joint formula that has pork in it. We ...

Feeding New Baby Lady, questions, what to do?

Having some problems, I'll talk it out, but sort of think I suspect what's wrong. Facts: We've had Lady 6 days now. BorderCollie Lab mix. 51.5 lbs. been feeding Evo red formula plus canned of the same along with small amounts of chicken, oatmeal, sweet potato. Made chicken bone broth too. She was pu...

Re: New baby needs nursing

She seems happy. Enjoying regular meals and has learned where to hang out for supper. We have yet to hear her bark. Funny thing is her paper said she was vocal. She would whine a bit when she was getting to know the cat. We wonder if she might have barked at her former owners asking for something to...

Re: New baby needs nursing

Test was negative! yeah. She is good riding in the car, but going to the vet 3 times this week, she didn't want to get in the car, had to be lifted in. So we didn't head straight there, made a short stop at the library for me to dash in and pick up a book I'd ordered. She's gained 1.5 lbs over 3 day...

Re: New baby needs nursing

Oh gah, heading back to the vet to test for heart worm. Mentioned the possibility of HW to vet, now she's concerned, especially since there was another dog at the shelter positive for HW, worried if they were kenneled nearby. So keep fingers $ paws crossed. She is such a sweetie. Gets along with the...

Re: New baby needs nursing

We haven't discussed heart worm. If she was an outdoor dog that would be a concern and doubt the previous owners took any steps to prevent it. We go back on the 11 th so will have to address that at her re check. That would sort of make sense the owner wrote they no longer had the capacity to take c...

Gentle Giants Dog Food

Don't know if anyone else caught the segment on Channel 9 news earlier yesterday with the actor that played Robin on the old Batman series from the 60's. Ok we're back. X Ray was clear, no pneumonia, yeah, lungs clear. Vet wasn't sure if it was kennel cough or allergy. We're even wondering if she was given up because the allergy thing. She hacked practically all the way to the vet, made a nervous ride. Vet was packed, had to circle the block, then en...

She's had beginner obedience but see great potential with her she will walk by our side in the back yard off...

Re: New baby needs nursing

Finally heard from the vet last night. She does have low thyroid, which this vet told us Monday was commonly seen in older over weight dogs. I told her of reading of malnourished dogs having low thyroid. I think this vet we saw is new and not too experienced. We just saw her because of the voucher L...
