Re: Hot Spots - Anyone have any suggestions

<t>That sounds like good advice. I've kept him sedated today, which has kept the licking down, but it might be getting bigger. His whole side is wet, and really smells. We are in the middle of the city, San Fernando Valley. Smokey is in with us at night and in and out during the day. We've always sa...

Re: Kiara's Story - Please read & keep this as a reminder...

<t>Boy that story got to me. Off leash scares the heck out of me. I took one of my dogs to the vet one time for shots, it was an old leather leash, it broke, she bolted and ran off in the middle of a busy 4 lane highway. She was also shy, wouldn't come, I was scared to death she was going to be hit....

Gosh, I have no idea. I don't know if we even have such a thing here in California. That's an idea tho.

Re: Hot Spots - Anyone have any suggestions

<t>You are right. I do believe Smokey was abused. We adopted him when he was 2 yrs. old, the story went that the owner moved - likely story I think. I think he became a problem biter and was sent to the pound. You know if you tell the pound that a dog has a biting history, they put them down, so tha...

So you make their food up yourself. I looked on line and it looked like there was a product to buy, a Dr. Billings or something?

<t>Wow, that was such an interesting picture. I have some of the green tuperware bowls like you were using in the picture. My dogs love those as water bowls, and go out of their way to drink from the one in my bathroom. It must be something to do with it being deep. I have to use the brake free bowl...

Want to hear a funny pooop story?

<t>Last night when we were sitting at the Emergency Hospital with Smokey, a woman came in. The complaint was the dog wasn't pooping, and it was eating grass when they walked it. She told the receptionist that they have always had to walk the dog to get it to go - it was a small yorkie type dog. My s...

Re: New Purina food! yay!

<t>You want to talk about the Natural ingredients in Purina. Has anybody picked up a bag of that new Goodlife dog and cat food - read the ingredients? It's all corn & byproducts. Really attractive commerical they have running on TV now with a Sinatra song. Pure, cheap junk food - If you want a l...

Hot Spots - Anyone have any suggestions

<t>Smokey has a huge hot spot on his side. We spent 2 hours at the emergency vet tonight, but they weren't able to get near Smokey. He's a fear/pain biter, agressive. They tried to muzzle him, no luck. Then tried to corner him, trying to sedate him to see if they could treat the wound. No luck there...

Re: Adding water to kibble

<t>I always add water too - makes a gravy. I had a picky dog one time that wouldn't eat the food unless it had goodies or gravy added. Well I tricked her once. I took a cup, added warm water ONLY, took a spoon, beat it like heck for a bit and then poured it on the kibble, then served it. She thought...

<t>$65.00 is not too expensive, but if the results are questionable, I don't know if it's worth it. I'm like Maisy, when I first read about it I wanted to swab myself. It's around $400.00 for a human. I'd like to test myself, find out if the Native American the family has always claimed we have is r...

Re: Opinions on when to get a new dog

<t>Sounds like a good plan to me too. Neutral ground is always the best bet to introduce a new dog. We had a pair that we introduced too abruptly - didn't do enough of the meeting at the park bit. We ended up having to crate them part of the time and if one was inside the then the other one had to b...

<t>My sons are grown, so I don't know how I would manage kids, plus the zoo we have here. My married son says we are nuts for all the animals we have. The animals are my kids now. I've noticed this week since I have been trying to feed the dogs a homecooked meal, the people haven't been faring as we...

Been there, done that. I know what it is to use up every towel in the house.

I tell my bunch every once in a while what my Mom used to say about her grandkids - that seperately they made a great only child.

But seriously, they'd be lost with out the others.

Re: Ideas for getting dog hair off of car interior?

To vacume the back of our car, which I think would be like the carpet in your truck, I use the beater bar attachment to the vacume. It's a canister vac, with a floor attachment. I drag the thing outside & lift that attachment on the wand up into the back of the car.

<t>Since we have the 3 dogs and a cat all indoors, for months now the vacume cleanner sits out at the side of the family room floor. We have a closet it would go into, but it's just too much trouble to drag out all the time. If we have someone over, we hide the vacumme, but otherwise it's out all th...

Re: Where Do Your Dogs Sleep

<t>Our dogs are always in the house. I feel sorry for the dogs next door to us, they are always outside no matter how cold it is and I can hear them cry. Taffy starts out on a large dog pillow, then around 2 or 3 winds up on my bed. Licorice starts on the pillow or rug, then has to move to the bare ...

Re: Bird Chasing

<t>Probably. My dogs live to bark at the squirrels. It seems like it has developed into a high prey chasing. We have italian cypress along our back fence that I think the squirrels live in. I think we will have to fence off that section of the yard if we want them to leave them alone. Smokey bites a...

<t>My dogs have suffered too from itching. I have read that it is something to do with our climate here in California. I was considering allergy shots, but heard it was very expensive for the series, and if you missed one, you had to start the whole business again. I ran into a pet food demonstrator...

Re: Do any of your dogs eat soap?

<t>Oh, that's good to hear Calypso. Smokey can't reach the soap on the sink, or he'd be after that. The only way to keep soap at my bathtub is to stick to the liquid soap. My son has to keep his high up on his shower ledge. If you leave it down low, Smokey has it in a flash. And heaven help you if y...

Do any of your dogs eat soap?

<r>Smokey is an unrepentant soap eater. We can't leave any soap down low on the bath tub soap dishes or he gets them. Our soap has to be kept up out of his reach. He loves the deordorant bars. The best I could tell from what I read on line it doesn't really hurt him. It said they might throw up a bi...

Re: Bird Chasing

<t>Smokey, my Austrailian Shepherd is into bird chasing and has been since we've had him for a good 3 years. I don't know if that is the herding instinct in him or what. He's so funny, he chases the birds as they fly across the yard going home to roost, tears from one side of the yard to the other. ...
