Taffy allergic to EVERYTHING

I finally sent in her Hemeopet saliva test to Dr. Dodds. She came back significantly reactive to all 22 items on the test and said she shouldn't be fed any of them. Dr. Dodds questioned if she had been fed in the 3 hours before the test was done, which I don't remember in the instructions. All I rem...

Re: Signs of bladder infection or UTI?

Tape a cup or plastic container to a yard stick & see if you can't catch the flow. Did that just a little while ago to Smokey. Got a sample!

Re: No low throid for Smokey

Not normally little nips, it's sit with ice for awhile, usually breaks the skin. Last one he got me I was absentmindely watching TV and rubbing the bit of sleepy gunk out of the corner of his eye - so my hand was close to his mouth - he just moved his head, chomped down slightly, didn't have the roo...

Re: No low throid for Smokey

Looked at the video, that is NOT how Smokey responds to one. I've got a copy of a Whole Dog Journal that talks about getting them used to the muzzle, showing it, giving food etc. He all but puts up a paw like talk to the hand, get that thing out of my face. We majorally screwed up using one on him, ...

Re: No low throid for Smokey

No, he's not worse, he's just a consistent biter if you try to groom or treat/medicate skin conditions - won't accept a muzzle. The vet gave me the name of a veterinary behaviorist, but in the meantime I can check out the book on RG. I've been interested in the TTouch method, -sometimes he'll come &...

Re: No low throid for Smokey

He's approx. 13 years. We've always called him a fear biter/pain biter, he'll bite if you try & comb him - pulling a matt hurts. using scissors. Of course he's got the issue with his ears & his belly was inflammed from licking. Dr. Lane thinks this latest treatment will probably resolve the ear issu...

No low throid for Smokey

So we have no explaination for his aggression. Blood work was sent out to Dr. Dodds and came back normal. In fact blood work looked good except for very high phosphorus. He is on simplicef 200mg for 14 days because of the ears. I like the new vet how she shares with us options, even read what the ol...

Re: Dax graduated from rats

I like having these around, Possums like skunks and racoons will eat rodents. Smokey will kill any rats or mice he comes across, but we've got enough around here that the boy needs all the help he can get. That's probably why you see them from time to time.

Tip for pill giving

Just wanted to share a success I've had lately giving pills to Taffy. She's a finicky eater so I've resorted to using baby foods from time to time. Gerber has a Gerber Graduate Pasta Pickups for toddlers - basically a finger food for a toddler. About the size of a rice chex cereal. They have a coupl...

Yeah Claire, that's so great. I cringe when I'm in Wal Mart and see somebody with a bag of Old Roy in their cart. I usually don't comment on it, figuring that the person might be low income, maybe that's all they could afford.

Re: Smokey vent - Unethical Vet?

Smokey is at the new vet to have his ears checked out. They were able to sedate him. Much more through consultation than the old practice, shared the results of the old clinics findings, namely having an ear drum that wasn't intact. She's looked this time and both are intact. Old clinic didn't even ...

yeah, tough love would be hard on Taffy, I worry about her losing weight. Finally she's digging into her dinner; chicken liver, heart, green bean, tiny bit of rice, she's eating right now in spite of it having chinese herb and calcium powder in it. Oh, and Bettyna, you haven't lived till you smell f...

Like the tough love suggestions Betty. We are such push overs with Taffy. She refuses to eat until she gets what she wants. Wouldn't eat all day yesterday. Refused anything I gave her. So finally gave up, she got her cheesburger from McDondals, she ate two! Refused any breakfast today, fried her a h...

Pet Food Nation - Joan Weiskopf

Anybody read this one? It's a bit old, 2007 - I've got it as an e book through the library on my ipad. Weiskopf is a nutritional vet. She gives some recipes, although she's not in favor of raw per say. Agrees that bones have to be raw, but she cooks the meat a bit, worrys about bacteria. Says she gi...

Reading about Oliver really sounds similar to the problems Licorice has had, back end going out, reduced mobility. What has been a life saver to her has been the water treadmill. I know they don't like the water, Licorice isn't particularly fond of water herself, has never been one that plays in wat...

Re: Smokey vent - Unethical Vet?

Got his records to the new vet, so she knows what's been used on him in the past. 4th of July was miserable with him, his ears are so sensitive the loud booms really scared him. This holistic vet has really helped our other dogs, so I'm hoping she'll have more to offer that the other clinic missed. ...

Here's Smokey how he normally looks. He looks so funny shaved, doesn't look quite as fat, sort of naked. I meant to get out today and take a current picture but didn't get around to it.

Re: Smokey Shaved

He was matted, so it was easier for them to just shave him, he seems to like it, although with not much of a coat he likes to snuggle on the couch. Oh, yes he does have skin issues, needs a bath, if knuckle head would let somebody give him one, he'd feel so much better - vet didn't find any fleas, s...

Re: Update on Taffy and other kids.

Taffy probably has a bit of a queezy stomach too, food has to smell just right for her to eat it. She'd probably like me to tell them next time to hold the pickle, that was all that she passed on, although it was fine according to Licorice.

Re: Smokey vent - Unethical Vet?

He's just on the typical stuff Sabine includes in her diet, calcium, zinc, sea pet, cod liver oil, etc. nothing special. He has no issue with joint pain, so he isn't on any joint meds. Trouble is with the Zymox, the way Smokey currently is, we've never been able to treat him ourselves with his aggres...

Taffy keeps me busy trying to find something she wants to eat, so picky, she likes human food. Yesterday she ate so so, ate, but not a great deal. So last night, I'm wondering, wonder if she'd eat a hamburger. So take her with me, and we head for McDonald's and the drive through- Taffy drooling in t...

Re: Smokey vent - Unethical Vet?

Yes your right Lisa about the old vet, I just knew in my heart that they would have been out of their depth dealing with Taffy's issue with the tumor. The old vet was unfamiliar with Dr. Dodds, however our new vet is, knows about the NutriScan test. Wish we could get a handle on the aggression. Knuc...

Re: Smokey vent - Unethical Vet?

I've e mailed the holistic vet, she mentioned checking thyroid levels - if it was low it could cause long term agression and giving him an herb for the ear infection. But still he's a grouchy one. Lip curls up if you touch him somewhere he doesn't like. He is not a growler, so you get no advance war...

Smokey Shaved

DSCN3429.JPG I took this a couple days ago, lighting wasn't the best, I woke him up out of a deep nap to take this picture. you can see the color of his skin here, vet shaved all but his chest/head portion. Funny thing is they shaved his hind legs, but left the front intact from the knees down. Rem...

Oh, Smokey isn't in trouble. He's so cute. The old vet shaved him at his last appointment. I was reading on here someone asked something about what did your dogs skin look like. He's got a tri color coat when it's grown out, so is his skin, patchy looking skin. Just like I imagine if you shaved a ti...

We had a really bad infestion years ago. I did all the stuff you've been doing. Drove me nuts. I ended up having to get an exterminator. Took them a long time to finally get them killed out. Smokey vent - Unethical Vet?

So all along Smokey has had the issue with ear infections you might recall. The old vet was treating him. We'd sedate him, then they put him under to clean out and medicate the ears. The last time we'd had it done (which was only a couple months ago) vet mentioned a new product that could be placed ...

Update on Taffy and other kids.

Just thought I'd post a note, it's been awhile since since I've written. Dogs keep me busier than my boys ever did. All we do is run to vet appointments. Taffy is doing great, every time the vet can get a peak at her tongue she thinks the tumor site looks smaller all the time. Area where the tumor w...

That's a good idea to try necks, will have to try that on him and see what he thinks. He loves to steal bits from the dogs, especially when I'm preparing food. He loves to help himself to beef heart as I cut it up.
