Re: Heartguard or Interceptor?

Ugh! How frustrating!!! My vet's office hasn't given me grief about ordering Interceptor online, but I think that's primarily because they don't carry it. I don't know what they do with MDR1 dogs, since they only have HeartGuard, IIRC. I was clear that I wanted Interceptor and didn't leave much room...

Re: Heartguard or Interceptor?

Interceptor and heart gard are two different active ingredients unless something has drastically changed, so you can't compare the dosages that way.

Re: Heartguard or Interceptor?

I prefer interceptor because I can give a lower dosage, which for Henry is the 2 -10 lb one instead of the 11 - 25 lb one (and even that's a lot more than the safeheart dosage would be). With a dog as small as Ben, though, it wouldn't make any difference in that regard.

Re: Smokey diarrhea over 24 hrs

Poor Smokey.

I've always been told 24 hrs to rest the gut (except really small dogs who apparently can have a blood sugar crash if food is withheld that long, or so small dog owners tell me), but I'm rarely able to keep myself from feeding for that long.

I hope he's starting to feel better now.

Seizures are scary, especiallyclusters. I think you're doing everything (and more) that I would. I hope you can find a way to lessen them. You and MP are on my mind

I have no vet suggestions for S. Cali (I'm in New England), but if you think it's allergies, have you tried Benadryl or Zyrtec?

Hibiclens was the soap in the school bathroom dispensers when I was a kid. That stuff was supposed to kill anything, including whatever dirty, messy kids got into :)

Re: Matted fur helppppp!!!

I'm no help. I've never had a dog with a heavy undercoat like Natsu. A furminator works really well when Henry's undercoat is coming out but he doesn't have much of it and it doesn't matt.

Re: Thyroid and Lady

I don't know much about thyroid (knock wood, that isn't something I've had to deal with in my dogs....yet) I would say, though, that almost every dog I've had sleeps the day away, regardless of age. They get up and do things with me if I want, but left on their own, they nap and nap and nap. Especia...

Re: Best non-chemical flea repellents please?

Lavender or cedar essential oils are commonly used to repel fleas. I wonder if the gentler hydrosol of the same plants might work uf she's super sensitive. I make a spray with a lite wter, I cup acv and 3 drops cedar eo when fleas are bad. Again might too smelly for Mitzi though.

Is she drinking? If the abx are upsetting her tummy, I wouldn't be surprised, but you want to make sure she's still drinking.

It may take them a bit to figure out their place WRT each other. I think its fair game for her to raise a lip and tell Smokey to back off if he's being rude, and good for her that it didn't come to more than that! In addition to potato, oatmeal, pasta, etc (basically all the carbs you'd avoid if you...

Re: Stomatitis- any experience?

I thought there were a variety of different types of stomatitis with different causes (I seem to remember thyroid being on the list, and diabetes maybe, and kidney issues causing buildup of "bad" stuff in the body), some more serious than others. I think that's what my mom's ancient poodle had it, t...
