Re: Nutmeg's Nose

The vet did a full neurological exam this afternoon and agrees that it's ITN. Plus she has a mild case of Horners syndrome in one eye :hmm: He didn't seem overly concerned and since there's not much we can do, we're just going to wait and see what happens. Nutmeg is EXTREMELY clingy and whiny today....

Re: Nutmeg's Nose

Thanks everyone. Yes, if it is indeed "ITN" then it seems that it is self-correcting over a few weeks. I am doubtful that it's a TBD, because those aren't really a problem in this area, and all the symptoms and descriptions for ITN just sound exactly like what Nutmeg has. The good news is that she i...

Re: Nutmeg's Nose

Okay, I've been consulting Dr. Google, DVM and it actually sounds like it could be this: ideopathic trigeminal neuritis. I just emailed my vet with a journal article about it, so hopefully we can discuss this at tomorrow's appointment!

Re: Nutmeg's Nose

Update: This is just bizarre :( The vet put the scope up her nose, took samples and biopsies, and took a snout x-ray and found nothing. She flushed her nose with saline and apparently a lot of mucus came out, but it doesn't appear to be a foreign body. The vet is beginning to think that it's the nos...

Re: Nutmeg's Nose

Thanks everyone :) Connie, that's good to know about the blood. Nutmeg has had no blood (but snot aplenty... ooooooh the snot....) so that is a relief. I'm at a conference right now and very stupidly left my cell phone at home. The clinic is awesome though and have already emailed me to let me know ...

Nutmeg's Nose

UGH. On Tuesday evening I noticed that Nutmeg had her mouth open like she was panting, even though it was cold in the house, and her eyes were watering. Yesterday, the mouth-open thing was worse and she was letting off BIG SNEEZES every now and then, so I assumed it was a canine cold. She is having ...

I'd love to, but I have a lot going on this season (possibly moving!!!) so it's probably not going to be feasible for me :( Spratley still LOOOOVES his big red fleece bone that Jill made him last year :D

Re: I think I did it wrong...

You know, maybe it's just something about Vancouver, but other than the one time Jean (Emma's Mom) and I went for a walk many moons ago, I have NEVER seen anyone leash up their dogs or call out or anything. I'm guilty of this too :( It just seems to be the culture here. If I see an owner struggling ...

Re: How often do your dogs urinate?

That sounds a bit odd to me, but as long as she's ok physically I suppose it's NBD? Both my dogs take a looooong pee when I get home from work (9 hours or so) and mark a lot. I would say they have 3 big pees per day on average. Interestingly, I don't know if Nurmeg drinks water when I'm at work. She...

Re: Humor - if you need a little levity

I saw this for the first time last night, and did get a good chuckle after many of them. "I ate a Herman Melville novel" was my favourite :) There were a lot, though, that I felt bad for the dogs - a case of owners just not understanding or managing doggy behaviour very well :hmm:
