Re: Never really realized how big a presence Roscoe was

If they didn't give us such joy, it wouldn't be like this. Roscoe was big presence, even only in a virtual world. But I also remember how frighteningly, excruciatingly silent the house seemed when we lost our 6 pound cat, Franklin, even though we had a much larger Labrador still with us. Her sounds ...

Re: Pofi, Prednisone and infected nail bed

Thanks Connie and Lisa. He really is coming out of the pred funk. Brighter and more responsive. Still really quiet, though. It really is just one nail bed and two vets and the techs who trimmed his nails have looked really closely at the nail and everyone thinks the nail is fully sound. No crack, sp...

Re: Pofi, Prednisone and infected nail bed

I wonder? I should try searching. Last night's adventure with Prednisone involved me slipping and falling in a giant puddle of very dilute urine in the mudroom by the back deck door. I sense I did not get up quite fast enough when I heard him stirring. He was pretty upset by the whole incident. And ...

Re: Pofi, Prednisone and infected nail bed

Thanks, Nana. We did confirm that the limpy right leg is the foot that has a toe they saw some arthritis in way back in a 2010 x-ray. Which was surprising and was not really an issue at the time, so I just was just doing a glucosamine supplement. But it makes sense that when he has really had a good...

Re: Pofi, Prednisone and infected nail bed

Well, really pleased to say he actually came trotting out of my dressing room when I called to see if he wanted to go walkies. Booty on and we kept it short, but he was more lively and engaged and it did our hearts good.

Re: Pofi, Prednisone and infected nail bed

Thank you, Connie. Def won't be continuing or doing Prednisone again. Have not had so many side effects with other dogs before. So will check this out for future use. Just was on phone with my Mom and she remarked how strange it was to not hear him talking into the background like he always is. Tell...

Pofi, Prednisone and infected nail bed

So background for anyone who missed it, but just over one week ago - 2 AM Friday morning, Pofi went out to potty and came back acting strange. At first it was just restlessness - could not settle back into bed with me. Got on the floor, left the room, went to a spare bedroom where I found him just s...

Re: Driving, Dogs, and Tornadoes

Wow. I never thought about it, but I can't believe your friend was denied shelter from a tornado at a publicly funded rest area unless she left the dog behind. Who exactly is the "they" in the story?? This is tough, but good to think through. My gut says the likelihood of being direct in path of the...

Re: Need some good thoughts, please! Another lump

I know it is, Sherri, but you would not believe how lumpy Pofi is. I make my vet map them on a drawing of Po so we aspirate them as new ones are discovered. Some grew quickly, like Henry's, and every one of them so far has been "classic fatty lipoma cells" under the microscope. Here's to Henry'snew ...

Re: Pi & Gringo

Just going to remind you, Lynn, that Mia pretty savagely attacked Pofi several times years ago. I really think she could have killed him. And I will manage them both, her more, but both, for the rest of our days. But I know they are safe 99% of the time. Both dogs were fixed, but she was still physi...

Re: Some one quick - gradual vestibular? Ingestion?

We get chicken bones dropped in the yard by squirrels. Have a neighbor who leaves carcasses out for them on a plate at the base of a tree. When I went past that house on walkies today there were old carrots everywhere..... Glad little E is feeling better.

Re: What makes a good bed snuggler?

Sleeping with Pofi is easier than sleeping with most humans. Ken and I are jealous of his affections, but he generally starts off at the foot of our bed and not touching either of us for, oh, about 3 to 5 minutes. And then he moves to a vertical alignment in between us and stretches out full length....
