Re: Coat/food question

.....I read that thyroid problems rarely begin before a dog is 2 years old and also some of the symptoms are an overweight dog, or a dog that puts on weight with little food, and a dog with not much energy or one that tires easily, also poor coat and skin..... The general rule is that most rules ab...

Re: Poultry meal

<t>Also, if it's listed as chicken meal, then turkey meal, you know that those ingredients will always be in the same relative proportion (more chicken meal by weight). If it's listed as poultry meal, there may be more variation...sometimes all chicken, sometimes all turkey, sometimes more of one th...

Re: Question about food allergies

<t>You'll get all sorts of varying advice because dogs are very individual.<br/> <br/> My experience is that itchies and feet biting are typically caused by food allergies. In most dogs I've seen at training (and my own dog), the feet biting is often from grains (wheat, or corn), though I bet that's...

has the thyroid been tested?

<t>Has a thyroid test been run? Although he may not be showing signs, he may be in the process of going hypothyroid. <br/> <br/> Our Max had a similar problem, though I didn't really think that much of it. In fact, he also had hypER signs. But I did have a panel run (full panel including free T3, fr...

Re: Vitamin Supplement - NuVet

I agree, it depends on what you are using it for.

There are some immune boosters in there, and I don't like using those on a regular basis, unless they are for therapeutic reasons. If I were looking for a daily vitamin supplement, I would keep looking, but that's for my dogs.

Re: rotation of meals

<t>Thanks connie. I did remember that you mostly fasted them one day a week. My dogs are so skinny right now that I haven't wanted to do that. Perhaps I will get to the point where I can.<br/> <br/> It's been about a week since I started rotating non-meat days, and it seems that they are both doing ...

Re: rotation of meals

That's encouraging to hear. With any luck, I might be able to get a bit more variety in also.

Thanks!

rotation of meals

<t>I'm curious about thoughts on the comparisons on two ways to feed.<br/> <br/> I have two dogs, both can tolerate eggs and one protein each (mixed breed Indy eats pork, GSD Max eats lamb). I have, for years, fed the eggs in the a.m. and the meat in the p.m. One reason for this is that neither can ...

Re: Purdue Bloat study~people still use that as a guide?

<t>Here is my opinion, but purely an opinion......<br/> <br/> I've been thinking about this a bit since I have a GSD that bloated about 2 years ago.<br/> <br/> I don't think you can look to a specific ingredient, and I don't think that you can look at ingredients in isolation to the entire ingredien...

Re: Can you really tell that one food is more nutritious than another?

<t>Just a few quick thoughts that haven't been specifically addressed by the former posts...<br/> <br/> In general, I don't believe that you can tell which foods are more nutritious when they have similar ingredients, because the labeling laws don't support that. But looking at the ingredients as wh...

<t>Indy's last bloodwork was okay, buther typically low-end absolute WBC certainly doesn't support acute infection.<br/> <br/> Osteomyelitis, from my recent research, is just a nasty thing to fight. Re: Almost like a bed sore -- on one hip. ???

<t>Hey connie, you brought me out of lurk mode <br/> <br/> I'm sure that this isn't related..........<br/> <br/> Two years ago Indy was having something similar on her hip, and ultimately a pretty good sore opened up. It was where a wire was place from her TPO when she was a pup, we took the wire ou...
