Re: At my wits end... Gimpy Zeke now with stomach upset!

My internal medicine vet also uses the aggressive dose, but will wean to a lower dose, if possible, in chronic cases. It really seems up to the vet preference. Since all this abx resistence stuff, vets *are* more nervous about using abx, which is kinda odd, because using it at a lower dosage will of...

Re: Dr Dodds thyroid test

I hope that it's not Cushings, and is general thyroid stuff. I think that Tennessee is THE place for diagnostics if it isn't standard Cushing's. I know that's the lab that Jazz's dermatologist uses. This is weird, they treated astypical Cushing's with steroids??? http://www.petcarebooks.com/pdf/Atyp...

Re: Dr Dodds thyroid test

Yeah, the Addison'/Cushing' test is pretty pricey. Jazz had to have it twice for suspected Addion' :o Cushing's, I believe, is tricky to treat. That would be something I would look into supplements for, if the test come back positive. Might not be feasible, but worth doing some homework on. Has he e...

Re: At my wits end... Gimpy Zeke now with stomach upset!

Oh, btw, I do know of a breeder that has a TBD problem in her kennel. She regular treats with OTC doxy, and now doesn't post about this stuff at all, keeping it very quiet. I understand why.

Not ure if I've posted this, the relation to gut issues, though may not be mainstream, we've found on the tick list, a definite gut connection.

Re: At my wits end... Gimpy Zeke now with stomach upset!

You might ask dr holland to run the cornell multiplex if she has blood left over, though it's not PCR, it's another antibody test. It's a newer test. It tests initial exposure (OspA), infection (OspC), and chronic infection (OspF). Chronic is about 6 weeks maybe to them, I don't remember. Might be w...

Re: At my wits end... Gimpy Zeke now with stomach upset!

I have been reading til my eyes cross about polyarthritis. ... Wouldn't it be weird though for Zeke to be the only one of his litter with symptoms if it is congenital Lyme and no immune response? You know, you did say that he was the biggest, so maybe hi genetics are a bit different than the rest o...

Re: At my wits end... Gimpy Zeke now with stomach upset!

Yes, a conclusion to this would be nice! Okay, jut wondering about the testing that dr. Holland ordered. My GSD was kind of a mess, and the breeder always told me how fine the whole litter was as well as the parents. Later I heard a whiff of news, after the sire died young- from cancer, that there w...

Re: At my wits end... Gimpy Zeke now with stomach upset!

Oh, we have a breeder as a long term member of the tick list. Her experience is that sometimes in congenital TBD, there is no antibody response, the thinking is that the body doesn't recognize it as foreign, since it was born with it. No clue if something like that could be going on.

Re: At my wits end... Gimpy Zeke now with stomach upset!

Not much wiggle room in interpreting these titers, it' pretty straight forward. Has a chem panel and cbc ever been run during all this? Did you or protatek lab pick what to tet for? Just curious. Just wondering about the other tbds. The other thought is that these may be a european strain that don't...

I gues maybe because of the skin condition and the high ALKP.

I hope you guys can come up with a plan of action that you're happy with.

Agree on the breeder issue. Wow. May or may not show up in test, so would treat anyway - hope you get to the bottom of this.

I'm sorry about the ACA/COBRA mess too - this all need to be fixed :(

Bugs, sanitization, and bathing...

I can't remember if I actually asked about this before, it's been on my mind. My Mom is in a care facility now, and has entered hospice. This is the best thing for her. There are times I need or want to bring Jazz (18 lb mix). She has caught skin infections from visiting these places in the past. I'...

The plus side is that when he is distracted with play, he totally ignores the lameness and fully uses all limbs. And that is classic pano, too. . As a sidenote, I just think that is classic dog - they will override pain and discomfort to do what they really want to do. My girl with a bad hip did th...

The only vit C that my other dogs could tolerate was the sodium ascorbate (also the kind that belfield prefers). Jazz here doesn't do well on any of them at this point.

Thanks for the Sojo's tip Sabine! I had all sorts of trouble getting Jazz to eat rehydrated dehydrated food. She has IBD, and doesn't like food so much in the morning anyway. I started giving her the dehydrated food in a kong when I take a shower in the morning getting ready for work, and it seems t...

Re: Perfect Fit Harness?

Jazz can't use those regular harnesses, so I don't have experience with them. I used the Comfort Flex in both of my seniors (33 lbs and 75-85 lbs), as well as Jazz here (19 lbs). I like the freedom of a regular harness better, but with the handle and how it fit, it seemed to allow me to support them...

Sounds like you are getting some answers, and a vet willing to tackle this. I have seen a dog with giardia, and another gut infection, have regular bloodwork that looked like tick disease, and the dog behaved like it also. I don't know if giardia can have different strains that create different type...

Re: Dr Dodds thyroid test

Same experience here - clear indiciation to me over several tests that Jazz's thryoid wasn't working right, and Dodds kept recommending not to treat, even when I sent a follow-up email. We treated and it was the right decision. I like to get a panel from Dodds because I like to see her Case Specific...

Glad he is feeling better, and glad you'll be running some bloodwork. Even if it's normal, the rule-outs are important, and if it's not normal, you'll find something you can fix.

We just had someone on the tick list whose dog was diagnosed with C Perf, and her dog is cyclical, she is stuck with the same issue - it's not consistent, but cyclical. My mom lost her colon to C Diff, so I know the damage it can do when it is way out of control. For years she battled with inconsist...

Re: Poo questions

*If* there is an enzyme deficiency in the body, then the enzymes are replacing something that the body can't make on it's own. It could be that the need for enzymes is the central problem. If they really did help before, I would be inclined not to stop them. There is some thought that a lack of enzy...
