Re: Wellness dog food

<t>Do you know if Wellness is a closed recipe? If it is, they can't just change ingredients or processes. If it's an open recipe, all bets are off. Having a closed recipe ensures that each product stays true to the original. When open recipes occur, animals get sick because their systems can't take ...

Re: Sweet or Smart?

<t>I believe dogs, ideally, can be both sweet and smart.<br/> <br/> My puppy, Carnegie (who I got at 11 weeks) is very smart and sweet when he wants something (smart, huh?). Kahlua is super sweet and very smart and Harley, my 12 year old female was so badly abused when I rescued her from the pound (...

Mordy,

I got your web sites (this one and the Dog Food Project) off of the National Geographic channel (Cesar Millan blog).

Re: What Supplement Should I Use To Treat Crystals In My Dog?

<t>Hi Pchan,<br/> <br/> Yes, it's the loose stool thing. I have had dogs all my life (since I was 2 years old) and have tried various foods, except raw. I find dry works best for my cockers. The only time I used wet food and/or "people" food was when my 14 year old English Cocker Spaniel was dying o...

Re: So frustrated!

<t>I also feel your pain. My mother's poodle, Shanna will not eat on occasion, like 2 or 3 days. She turns up her nose at everything. Just because she refuses to eat doesn't mean she doesn't like the food. She likes controlling you. Changing her food constantly will not make her happy, it could make...

Re: Dangerous Encounter with Stray Dog

<t>My dog was a cocker spaniel weighing about 27 lbs. and the attack dog was a dobie/shepherd mix weighing in at around 60 lbs. The stupid owner had tethered him to his car, the steering wheel no less, and the dog chewed through the leash and ambushed us. Needless to say, I am much more aware of my ...

Re: What Supplement Should I Use To Treat Crystals In My Dog?

<t>It was actually a kidney problem - the crystals were forming there. I don't remember what the final diagnosis was but that food worked for her. I have since switched her to Royal Canin for Mature dogs and she is doing great. I really don't care for the vet prescription foods because I'm not thril...

<t>I have heard and read about Solid Gold and the ingredient list sounds good. I feed my dogs Pinnacle, from Breeder's Choice because Cocker Spaniels tend to have skin or coat problems and this food is holistic and contains no allergens such as Corn, Wheat, Rice, Barley, Sorghum or Soy.<br/> <br/> I...

Re: What Supplement Should I Use To Treat Crystals In My Dog?

<t>Sometimes, the food you are feeding can cause crystals. I have 3 dogs, ages 1 1/2, 7 and 12 and I was feeding them all the same food until she started having problems. She had crystals forming so my vet switched her to W/D (vet dry food). I had another blood test done on her and found that it was...

<t>If you want a "spicy" book to read, get Dean Koontz' book<br/> "Watchers" - it is so good you may not put it down. It's about a very special golden retreiver. It's kind of spooky.<br/> <br/> Another good book is "The Dog Listener" by Jan Fennell. It's not a novel but it is a good tool to have.</t>

<t>Hi,<br/> <br/> I checked the web site for Mother Hubbard and unless they are using less than the best meat/chicken available, the ingredient list seems pretty good. No by-products or wheat. Re: What do you guys think of Cesar Millan?

Calley,

Try reading his book. It is really interesting. Also, when I am watching the DW, my dogs come running into the room at the sound of his voice - they love to watch him and bark back at the dogs. Pretty funny.
