Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

Hi Lisa, I was recommended Tylan by a woman in my agility class who is a vet tech at internal medicine at the clinic here (I did not like the general clinic much due to some funny things they told me, but the specialists are supposedly different from the general clinic, but idk). Anyway, you said yo...

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

Judy, I am tempted to wait. It will be another 9 weeks until I leave for about 3 weeks. So a total of 12 weeks until I would start an elimination diet. I know it is not ideal, but if he has to stay on the elimination diet for 8 weeks to truly make a decision about its effectiveness it cuts it too cl...

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

There was "whitefish" in one of the foods he got previously. Does this include Sardines too? Otherwise that would be an option.

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

As expected, lots chicken turkey and beef in the stores here. I can get ground lamb for 6.99 per lb. There was some ground veal for 5.99 but don't know if that's a special price. The one store had ground bison, for 8.99 per lb however. There's some good pork selection, but there was some in the id f...

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

Wow Lisa, thank you. You know quite a bit about this. I have to learn stil (I had to look up what marshmallow is haha). Do you recommend a certain brand? Can I order some on Amazon? He is getting a probiotic with his night time meals. Can I feed those while doing the novel food trial? Also, can I ad...

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

Crap, the ID contains pork liver and fat :( which leaves me with lamb I think (I have to double check, but I am pretty sure it is the only other novel meat I can get in the stores here). oh and it was earthborn that he was on, not taste of the wild, which includes whitefish meat, so I guess that mea...

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

Thanks Amanda, that is a really helpful link. I know Sabine mentioned that cooked diets are better, however, this website says it can be fed raw or cooked. Since I have limited time I would prefer raw (not the potatoes obviously), but if I have to I will cook. And another question: I am leaving for ...

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

Ok, let's say I start with two ingredients at a time (I am thinking lamb or pork and baked white potato or quinoa). How long do I try them for? And do I switch him cold turkey from the ID to the new ingredients (considering he is on metro and sulfa anyway for now). How much do I need to feed to main...

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

I will see what I can get here year round, probably only pork or lamb. For fish, he did get salmon, what other kind of fish is ok? Do you have some carb ideas too? Sorry I keep on asking all these questions. I am just not experienced with any of this at all and did not expect it with my first dog ha...

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

Yes, Calypso, I am. But I am on the East side of the states (10 mins from Idaho), in a small college town with the next "larger" town being Spokane which is 1.5 hours away. I do not have the time to drive up to Spokane regularly and I do not have a large freezer either. I talked to some farmers on t...

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

Ok. So, what types of foods are generally novel? He was on commercial pedigree (I don't know which kind as it was given to me in a ziplock bag by the HS), then call of the wild chicken, then HK chicken and the raw formulated plan from you Sabine, HA and ID. So mostly poultry, but I did cook him some...

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

Yes he was treated for Giardia. Addison's was ruled out and his blood work is normal. Vet says we are left with IBD, "leaky" gut or cancer, all of which can only be surely diagnosed with a biopsy. He was on rice and chicken and turkey only for a couple weeks this summer but developed diarrhea on thi...

Re: Someone tell me what to do :(

Lisa, he was on metronidazole only when we first started, but he only reacted moderatly to it: his stool was formed but really soft still. Adding half a tablet of sulfasalazine helped to get it back to being solid too. We haven't weened him off just one at a time. First time we took him off he went ...

Someone tell me what to do :(

Ok, so Ranger had good stool for 2 weeks without medication. Well, we are back to diarrhea :( Vet says there is really two ways we can go: - Biopsy and then see if we want to use stereoid based medications - put him back on metronidazole and sulfasalazine for 10 days or so. Then reduce the dose to o...

Re: Pepsi bit his groomer

Stupid question, but what is a 10 day quarantine supposed to do? Aside from depriving the dog from human attention and exercise which will make it likely more hyper/unsure/aggressive or whatever is going on?

I am sorry your cousin has to go through this. I hope you can figure it out.

Re: Story research - need help

1. Do dogs wear collars when left in the kennels? When you get a dog from a shelter, is one even provided? I think I just brought a couple adjustable collars from home and had them fit one on the dog. In our local shelter they wear collars all the time. If you adopt, however, you have to bring your ...

Re: breed choice surprises?

I was always interested in many breeds. I liked pits because I think some of them are misunderstood. I also liked Rotties and other "beefy" breeds. I knew an awesome husky, but wouldn't get one if I lived anywhere where it gets warm. I liked Blue Heelers because I know a reallllyy sweet one, but nev...

Oh we also started play mouthing and trying to crap onto long sleeves, etc. which we didn't even do as a puppy. He is sucking his blanket again much more than he did for a while, any suggestions on any oral toys/etc that may be good for him?

Re: "I'm only gonna listen if I want to" phase

Thanks! I already do some of these things, but I have to work on my patience. Unfortunately I am a super busy person so if he decides to just stand on top of the hill when he does not want us to stop playing fetch and won't come I just get frustrated. In agility he is just all over the place and com...

"I'm only gonna listen if I want to" phase

So, Ranger and I were at this great point when he listened pretty well most of the time, even with distractions around. Well, apparently Ranger decided that listening is no fun, so since this week we are ignoring me completely if not interested in listening. I have no idea what caused it or why we a...

Wow. It's beautiful. I know it may be scary especially not knowing if its rabid, but man, I just love wildlife and my heart and soul just gets happy when I see it. It is unfortunate that we humans decrease their environments further and further, and then act surprised when they adapt to having us ar...

Oh this is just what I need. I cannot even count the times I encountered off-leash dogs, it has been too often. And so far most of them with absolute irresponsible owners and dogs that do not listen. NO fun with a dog that is reactive...so, I think I need to start trying some of these things. I usua...

Ok, I am decided I will do a biopsy. Question is, surgical or endoscopic? We are going off the medication on Saturday, after having been on them for 3 weeks. Trying to see if we stay stable or if it goes bad again.

Fingers and paws crossed please that that did it! :)
