Re: Moving to UK

If someone who lived with NO animals in the house walked into my house, I'm sure they'd smell dog. But anyone who lives with any sort of animal at all, says my house smells great. If I stick my nose down in the dogs' coats, I will tell you this: The border collies do not have a dog odor. In fact, I ...

Re: Eddie's limping - possible cruciate injury

as much as I hate to say it... and even more to do it... it might be time for the matchstick trick if he tries to be the great withholder. lol Relieved to hear that it's not completely blown! That's good news, indeed.

Re: Eddie's limping - possible cruciate injury

Is he toe touching, or is he holding it up high? Have you manipulated his foot/toes? I'd go for rest and ice, if he'll let you, and see how he's doing in a day or two.

Re: Poor Freddy is gimpy

I should also point out that my vet prefers to NOT do full crate rest, but Nick would just randomly jump up from laying down, or have taken 3-4 running steps before I could stop him, so we had to institute full CR. But I do suspect that there may have been some arthritic changes with his age and inj...

Re: Poor Freddy is gimpy

When I mention doggie PT, I don't necessarily mean the whole underwater treadmill, laser treatment, etc. thing. Nick did several weeks of crate rest - out on leash to potty, right back in. Then, same thing, except adding in 3 to 4 x 5 to 10 min leash walk per day. A week later, increase to 15 mins p...

Reading back, I now see where you mention PT. I'm wondering if he's had some arthritic changes? Then when he overdoes it he gets ouchie?

Re: Poor Freddy is gimpy

I'm a bit behind the groove on this one, but when Nick had a soft tissue injury we had to do the full crate rest followed by a very LONG process of physical rehabilitation (which was very, very strict and carefully controlled). Have you been doing PT with him?

Re: More about DE, worms, and how I can overreact sometimes

Can dogs get the CO treatment? Sometimes I give MYSELF a Coconut Oil hair treatment. CO all over the scalp. Warm, damp towel wraps for 1/2 hour, and then shampoo/rinse. Would that work for a dog?? Maybe follow up with a buddy rinse? http://www.cloudstar.com/prodcat/buddy-rinse.asp I have no idea. Or...

Re: More about DE, worms, and how I can overreact sometimes

That really don't match the photos of flea eggs I find on Google; they look more like ... dandruff. My dog has dry skin. My dog has had so much DE put on her that she's as dry as the Mohave Desert. This is not helping her coat re-grow, either. Poor Shiri! I'm sorry, but it has to be said. lol lol l...

Nick humped Pia's face for a week straight. He's better at (ewww altert) cleaning her lady business than she is. Nasty boy dog.

Yeah, amazing hormones.

That's what I use, Sherri (well, a version of it). Fenbendazole *will* get tapes but you have to do a five day course, but that's not really relevant to the discussion. lol

Re: June - a 7-3/4 year breakthrough (long, sorry)

I understand. Thanks for the explanation. :) It's a good thing that new blood is entering the scene, and things are improving. I don't know much about the world of working dogs here in the US from first hand experience, but I know that there has been a tradition of harsh methods in Germany too. :( ...

Re: June - a 7-3/4 year breakthrough (long, sorry)

Thanks for sharing her story. And not to be confrontational, just out of curiosity - why would it be trashing the breeder if he mistreated dogs so badly? After all he's the reason why June had to go through so much crap. :( Not confrontational at all! The best way I can explain it is that there is ...

Re: Think we found a vet for Taffy

Another positive I forgot to mention was that Taffy was comfortable there. Not nervous, laid down and chilled out and was a really good girl, little sweetheart. That's pretty amazing! Any time one of my dogs just chill I get a happy feeling about a place. My dogs never, and I mean none of them not ...

Sorry I rambled on and on and on.... I wanted to put it on my blog but too many people know her breeder and I don't want it to look like I'm trashing him on there. I'm proud of Junie. And, just to clarify - I don't really so much care WHERE she sleeps... I just wanted her to move past the fear. I ho...

Re: Groovy's new class

I can identify. During agility classes June would take steak and sort of ho-hum. But if I pulled out a toy or a ball I would have to pull her off the ceiling. In fact, one time our instructor threw the ball and it took me 25 minutes to get June's brain back. Yeah, steak is good.

June - a 7-3/4 year breakthrough (long, sorry)

I don't think I've ever really trotted out June's story for you guys, and today seems to me to be a good day to do so. Here's why: The night before last, June slept on the bed. This is a reason for happy in the streets celebrations!!!! I adopted June on April 2nd, 2005. June is impeccably bred. Her ...

She just came into heat, right? IMO, it could be sexual right now. In fact, if I were in your shoes I'd go on and assume it was - and treat the access to Natsu's lady business accordingly.

Ginger just had one of these pop up. It's black too. Most of her other warty bumps are fleshy colored, but this one is black like a mole. It has hairs sticking out. Trying to decide if it's a big deal or not.

Re: Speak to me of boots! (The dog kind.)

My friend, Julie, uses the muttluks booties - she says they suck less than the others she's tried. But we certainly have spent a fair time looking for them too. Lost booties. It's what we do.

I just wish I could lose my own bootie that easily. Sigh.

No experience with booties, but maybe try musher's secret? Good stuff. Supposed to cut out/down the snowballs, and is also a good protectant in the heat as well.

My vague sort of on the sidelines bootie experience mostly involves hunting for them. rofl
