Also, she could definately use some "no significant sloughing or necrosis or other complication" vibes.

I'm really hoping Fraggle is all healed up by the time he gets here. Ugh. Snakes.

Copperhead bites

So late last night Fraggle was bit by a venemous snake on her back leg, likely a copperhead as those are the only ones we've seen on our property. ER vet tested some blood protein levels and something else which was normal, did a full exam which looked good, gave pain meds and sent her home. My vet ...

Re: Fraggle's getting a friend!

So fluffy. He also might be more like 1-2yo, based on my mom's guess, not 4. His teeth are all pearly white except for 1 canine next to a retained baby tooth. Only 2 weeks left!!!! I'm so excited. My mom is sending videos of him playing with cat toys and my son is so excited for "his" dog to come.

Re: Fraggle's getting a friend!

He's made it to my family's house in Montana. Gets along with all the dogs, (save the great Pyrenees who views all animals as threats and is not to be gotten along with), very friendly but not spastic. Also, in my "He is Fraggle's BFF destiny" thinking, he can get to his neuter wound with his cone o...

Re: Fraggle's getting a friend!

His foster mom also said he was "quick to learn" so that's another difference from Fraggle. He was found matted and roaming the streets in the same neighborhood Fraggle was found roaming trying to break into a school yard 7 years ago. (And neither were claimed when found flyers were put up--per usua...

Fraggle's getting a friend!

Introducing Kirby! (Name might be changed, but my 5yo is deciding it so it might be something worse). He's a 4 year old rescue maltipoo-ish currently being fostered by a family friend in CA. So my sister is picking him up there this weekend, bringing him back to Montana, then my mom will fly him out...

Re: In Home Training...How Crazy Am I?

I totally think you should give it a shot. It's a very low overhead thing to start up, and the sort of thing you could always do some as 'extra' even after you were to get a FT job when the youngest kid is in school. I know you taught a preparing dog for baby class, maybe offering people private les...

Re: Thorn and limping?

I hope it is just Pano and ends up deciding to resolve itself quickly. Poor Zeke and poor you. I hope you can get him some pain meds that will get him better relief too until it passes. I don't know if icing would help but I wonder if it might. Even a few minutes of pain relief might be nice for him.

Re: No-chemical flea, tick, mosquito repellents

I can say that for my own personal self in NC, nothing at all has worked for more than 5 minutes to repel the psychotic daytime biting tiger mosquitoes except for DEET or Picardin. Or permethin treated clothing (that stuff is AMAZING). NC has an intense rate and number of tick borne diseases (not mu...

Re: Back at the vet

Even Fraggle, the world's most zen muppet of a dog, began showing a sudden crazy intense storm anxiety after Ella passed. Apparently, without Ella's 'whatev, storm, those don't bother us' vibe, Fraggle was terrified of storms (a terror she doesn't experience at my friend's house with dogs how don't ...

Re: Foxglove, rhododendron, azalea

I'd definitely pull the foxglove. I think it is significantly more toxic than the others (as far as a smallish amount being damaging). I know a lot of people with rhodendrons and azaleas and dogs who have not had issues but I'm not sure how actually safe it is.

Re: Titers and Rabies

NC is crazy about rabies vaccinations (though we do, actually, have a lot of rabid wild animals here, so it makes some bit of sense). Ever since my town PTS the 2 dogs with expired rabies vaccinations because 1 of the dogs had *smelled* a dead rabid raccoon, I keep Fraggle's up to date. They won't r...

Re: Dog surrender process

Yes, human kids come first but that doesn't mean you get to neglect the animals. There are still expectations for a minimal acceptable standard of care. Even with a tight budget--you can still brush them and bathe them and clip their nails!!! You can still get them out of their crate and make some t...

Re: Fraggle is the nicest dog

We have lots of rabbits and squirrels and sometimes they run under there on their way out of the yard, so maybe that is part of the allure? Nothing is living under there though (and she's not digging or smelling or actually after anything--just, goes there). She goes outside, pees, poops. If it's ni...

And she seriously is a hamster. She's 13lbs, so not really tiny, but she fits through the slats on a standard babygate. So it is really hard to block her off from anywhere.

Fraggle is the nicest dog

...but really, not the brightest. Like, I love this dog to bits but she keeps going under the workshop and getting herself stuck. Not physically stuck, but "can't remember how to get out" stuck. We keep blocking off more and more and more or the edges and she keeps figuring out ways to get in that l...

Re: Why don't people listen? (Don't touch my dog)

A vest would probably help. A muzzle would keep people back and out of his space more than a vest and if you think Ronan might actually bite, it's not a bad idea. You can certainly condition him to feel comfortable wearing one. Nothing got Ella more space than when we started using a halti. People ...
