Please Good Thoughts and Magical Powers for MP

You guys, please send MP some good thoughts. I'm scrambling to get my head together for another vet visit and possibly referral to a neuro after that. MP's had 4 seizures today and she is just having a tough shit of a time. I know ODO vibes are extra healing, so I am asking for some for the Pancakes...

Re: MP's got the tick disease(s)!

Thanks, Lisa! We are doing doxy at 100mg BID for 30 days. It was the same for Mino. (Maybe it was 28 days?) During mino, i didn't see much difference that couldn't be attributable to anything else like weather and mood, positive or negative. :/ she is so gimpy and everything in varying ways that it'...

Re: metacam long term?

I do daily slippery elm, usually a bit before her dinner that has Metacam in it—like 15 min or so. I used to give it all together, but started staggering it a bit when we were doing the Minocycline for tick stuff so that it's full-on absorbable. I kind of doubt 15 minutes of delay does anything in t...

Re: MP's got the tick disease(s)!

ETA: Apparently, her C6 came back twice as high as what they consider "under control" (which is 30; she was 60). So, we are doing Doxy this time (my vet was like, why the hell not, because one of the concerns was cost and availability; neither were an issue via Costco). Her injury/flareup is at leas...

Re: MP's got the tick disease(s)!

I haven't talked to my vet yet (she comes over soon for acupuncture), but my rehab vet had talked to her earlier and said that they think she should do another round of Minocycline based on results—so I'm guessing they got it back and she's still Lymey. :( I kind of wish we were using Docy instead s...

Re: MP's got the tick disease(s)!

Thanks so much, you guys! Lisa, we ran the test on Wed so I didn't get your extra push for the Anaplasmosis test (nor a response from Protatek) until later. Protatek just said to run the IFA versus the SNAP; which wasn't really my question so either they misread my question or they just wanted me to...

Re: CBD hemp oil for anxiety?

MP uses hemp CBD products! (And I borrow it sometimes!) :D I do think it definitely works to chill out dogs (and humans)! I know that MP and I both sleep super soundly when we take it at night, and she gives less shits in general when I give her some before a likely-stressful event (say, a get toget...

Re: MP's got the tick disease(s)!

I just talked to my vet, and she is going to have the lab do this Quant C6 (she said she will look at the Cornell one, too, but the C6 one is what she usually orders), and we're going to rely on the CBC to watch the platelets instead of running an IFA or whatever else for the Anaplasmosis. (She is m...

Re: MP's got the tick disease(s)!

Thank you, Lisa! I'm sorry about the family stuff; please, no need to stress on my dumb thing—I will figure something out! :) She had a good ±week 10 days into the Mino (good = seemingly less gimpy, more peppy)—but this is difficult to discern, because she had reasons to be joyful (ppl she likes vis...

Re: MP's got the tick disease(s)!

Thank you, Lisa! I wonder if they also should be running the CBC for platelet count (that is what flagged my vet for tick disease). It seemed like we were only running a titer thing. I'm feeling kind of overwhelmed at the moment—I hope I can ask for the right tests for her current, post-Minocycline ...

Re: MP's got the tick disease(s)!

Thanks, Lisa! We finally got a tech appt for blood draw (was kind of complicated bc she's so hard to get blood from, and I had to request a team and their schedules didn't work out til then), and my vet is going to send the blood to their usual lab, who is supposed to be able to do the titer kind of...

Re: MP's got the tick disease(s)!

Thank you, Connie! I talked to my rehab vet in the meantime (I see her more often than my regular vet) and she said to run the more detailed titer type test like the dilution thing you're talking about (which she said that pretty much any lab should be able to do), since SNAP only shows exposure and...

Thanks so much, everyone!! This morning is her last dose of Minocycline, huzzah! ***However***, I read *last night* that magnesium was one of the things I was to avoid giving at the same time as the drug, which I had been giving with her meals, this whole effing time. :tired: I can't even. Oh, that makes sense to do it at the start then after. Thank you! I'll try to talk to one of my vets about it as we've already started the abx on Tuesday. She had another seizure last night, then 2 this morning (kill me now), so my head's a bit cloudy at the moment. :(

Re: MP's got the tick disease(s)!

Thank you all for your thoughts! And thank you, Lisa, for checking in! Re: Galliprant

Oh I see. I was thinking that the links I posted had some info about dropouts. (One ended up being dx-ed w/cancer or something, IIRC.) It's too bad that they didn't do anything about the MRD1 dogs. I would have thought you'd be required to. :/

Lisa, I'm looking at this on my phone with no sleep and a stuffed nose, so my brain has processed very little  — but I'm wondering if these docs might mention some of the things missing in the insert? I noticed that they were hard to find on a laypersons internet search; my vets may be able ...

MP's got the tick disease(s)!

Dang it to all the buttholes and donut holes! But it was probably a matter of time...ticks are *everywhere* now. :madgo: MP's recent bloodwork showed "mildly low platelets, but nothing else weird," so my vet ran a SNAP4Dx (plus?) today—and she tested positive for Anaplasmosis and Lyme (I think)! I'm...

Re: Galliprant

Lisa, I talked to my vet and she asked her colleague who had worked with the drug company. According to her, their test did include dogs from high-risk breeds—but they were not specifically tested/determined to be MDR1—but nothing bad happened to any of the high-risk dogs. So basically, as you said,...

I'm no help with the specifics re: Cushing's, etc., but in terms of simply getting him to eat, you could also try changing up the temperature (warm, cold, etc.), receptacle (hand, bowl, dish, bare floor), location to see if that makes any difference. Argh, how worrisome—hope he eats very soon! :( I ...

Re: Galliprant

I'll ask my rehab vet about it! Last year, she thought MP was a good candidate and tried to get some for us, but the rep she was in contact with said that the drug won't be released until early 2017, so it wasn't available then. She was considering this drug for us because we'd been wanting to avoid...

Re: Something going on with Smokey?

Oh, poor Smokey and you. :( 100 mg isn't a high dose for gabapentin, but it can make dogs wobbly and almost sleepy a bit. Because of that, age-related cognitive changes can seem exacerbated while they're on it. I wonder if it might help you guys to get a harness for the rear or even a towel to help ...
