Re: Prescription for Noise Anxiety?

Amanda gave you awesome guidance, Johnna! When working with MP's reactivity, one of the hardest things to remember/stick to/accept (?) was that she can't learn anything above threshold—once she's amped up/freaked out/whatever, brain is shut down, and it's all just stress and instinct. Sometimes it f...

Re: A poster I made—feedback appreciated!

Thanks so much, you guys! I really appreciate it!! :) I liked the "wise" one, too—I considered some other words (like "distinguished") but they were too long or just didn't work. It's nuts that I have to give examples but in my experience, some people apparently need a script to be nice. :/

A poster I made—feedback appreciated!

Hey guys! I recently had the fortune of Victoria Stilwell's FB page share my "Too Hot for Paws!" summer safety graphic, and the person in charge of the page said he'd love to see what else I have. :) It motivated me to get my shit together (just a little) and make a Nananimals FB page, so I want to ...

Re: Best non-chemical flea repellents please?

I agree with Sherri about hydrosols being better/safer—especially in a kitty household. EOs are a little like the grapes of cats: many people say their kitties are OK with very dilute EOs, but others just won't go there with kitties because of the whole kidney thing. Maybe a satchel made with actual...

Re: Stomatitis- any experience?

Oh Landis. :( I'm no help, but sending good vibes! Could something else making him reluctant to pee, like an owie in the hip area or another limb? I'm sure you've checked, but the kibble that made him sick hasn't been recalled or anything, right? If it's not too late, I'd ask for a full thyroid if y...

Re: Prescription for Noise Anxiety?

Hey! Chris Pachel, the doctor quoted in the article, used to practice here in Minneapolis and was a total awesome bad-ass! I never got to meet him personally, but my bestie and MP's beloved trainer who went back to school for animal behavior *loved* him, which makes me like/trust him by association....

Hope your hands and pillows are cleaner and Sam's doing OK today. <3

Re: Some concerns about Sam

<3 I wonder if it would be advisable to do something like d-mannose just to do what you can to prevent UTIs. I don't think it's something that can trigger sensitivities but given his tummy (altho it's kicking ass right now!), I thought I'd be extra sure. MP is supposed to do 3 wks on, 1 wk off, beca...

Sounds like a super plan! :) So glad he's eating *and* pooping out some good boopers! I've been told to "treat the dog, not the numbers/images" a few times now, too—kinda hard for me sometimes, but this is where I had to learn to trust my vets. :) Rooting for you guys! We got this!

Re: Advice please... Tail and neuter issues

Ugh. I hope you have some recourse, and at least be able to tell your story as a warning to others. Can you alert her country's kennel club that she breeds in the country but lies on her paperwork and requires her buyers to partake in the deception? It seems like the layers of her misconduct goes ra...

Oh Heather. :( I'm so sorry. Did the vet tell you for how long you need to do the fluids? I hear you about not knowing in what way they might not be feeling so great. Sucking at coming up with anything helpful to say, but you guys are in my heart.

Re: Some concerns about Sam

Aw, Sams. <3 I think just keeping track of changes, it might help you decipher what's gettin' old vs. somethin' to fix. *I* still have no idea, though, despite my journaling—it basically just helps me feel like I'm doing *something* productive and if a vet asks me anything about a certain day, I can...

Re: Nerve Sheath Tumor

LM, AFAIK, gabapentin really does take 2+ weeks (sometimes a month) to reroute how his brain receives pain signals, but the lethargy/mental dullness/wobbliness is supposed to happen much sooner. If he's eager until he tries and then quickly gets bummed, it does sound like it could be pain—but not to...

Re: Nerve Sheath Tumor

Oh LM, I'm so sorry you're feeling crummy. It is a rollercoaster indeed—I am really easy to push down the hill of misery and despair on a bad (usually hormonal!) day. It *is* a crappy, cloudy, dark, wet, cold day here—MP is extra owie today. I'm thinkin' that Pofi agrees it's a dumb day, too. Was he ...

Re: Nerve Sheath Tumor

I hear ya about the cost, etc., LM. This shit is expensive!!! :( Just FYI, I do know that while my both my regular vet and my rehab vet *love* BP, they both recommended the U for neuro. Neither are huge fans of the U, so tend to refer most specialist stuff to BP, but for neuro, they said that the U ...

Re: Nerve Sheath Tumor

I'm so sorry, LM, but I, too, would wait to go all-in emotionally on the U vet's pre-imaging assessment. If he's only been on Gabapentin for less than a week, he could very well be getting used to it. I was told that it takes a *few weeks* for it to kick in and for the dog's pain signals get sorted ...

Awww, poor you GUYS! Sheesh. So he's still *making* fluid (for lack of better word), or is it just the stuff that didn't come out with a lance or whatever they did? The ingrown hairs are only from shavey/fallout area, right? Not the "normal" parts? Hugs!!

Sheesh! How do you check for it recurring once all the other hairs are grown back?? I hope it was just from the shave, too!

It still looks pretty swollen—is that from the plucking and general irritation, or is he still draining whatever was in there? Hope it all goes away, soon!
