Re: dog cosmetic dentistry?

Correction of bites by braces if they are off for example, implants, crowns. And yes, Jen - it would be cheating if you do it just to show. :)

I'm so very sorry, Em. It's so tough every single time. :( Especially when you have several animals close in age and you don't get much of a break in between.

IMO ignoring is counterproductive and an outdated approach. Can you work on taking the edge off by pairing the noises with super yummy treats, or is he too stressed to eat?

You might want to try Tylan instead of Flagyl. You can get the powder version for livestock for pretty cheap and fill capsules or hide in food.

Re: Putting weight on an Iggy

Carbs should do the trick. Think of a typical raw diet as "Atkins" - while it is possible to overfeed a dog to such an extent that it will become fat, it's not as likely as with kibble (~50+% carbs). Grain or no grain doesn't matter unless the dog is sensitive to something specific. Adding some swee...

Re: ODO FB group?

IMO there would really be no point in having this forum if there's also an "official" Facebook group. Facebook users would migrate over there and the forum would become even quieter than it has been already since FB's popularity increased. People who don't want to use FB are then left behind. It's a...

Re: Good, cost effective grain-free

'there are crappy grain-free foods TOO, people!' Yep. I've been telling people that for years. Find what works for your dog. I also don't know why fingers are always pointed at "grains" (plural) vs. pointing out something specific. Just because wheat (random pick for example's sake) may be problema...

Re: Good, cost effective grain-free

I would avoid TOTW (it's a Diamond brand, not just made by them for someone else, and their track record is abysmal.) Fromm makes nice products and I have a lot of respect for them since they brought back their canned food operation to the US upon customer demand. Their track record on dry food is s...

If it is IVDD, you might want to check out this site:
http://www.dodgerslist.com/

They are focused on Dachshunds because the breed is so predisposed, but it's a resource for all breeds, really.

In my opinion, it can only be an improvement. Wellpet as an umbrella company has a lot of research behind their products (from more than one angle, Wellness and Eagle Pack for example). They also have never refused to provide specific nutritional data I requested from them. Sojos, not so much. They ...

Re: Nutrition and Behavior

Yes, IMO the dogs do better on less processed food vs. a straight kibble diet. It's nothing I can quantify in absolute values for you (unfortunately - I wish I could!), but I often get reports from clients who stopped feeding kibble exclusively (e.g. a kibble base with less processed foods added), o...

Re: Nutrition and Behavior

That may not necessarily have anything to do with what you fed him though, just his state of mind, for lack of a better word. As an example, I'd expect Dax to be wiped out and wanting a nap after a 5 mile hike or a demanding obedience class, but often we'll come home and he'll go nuts with his toys,...

Re: Raw or cooked for hemangio dog?

It doesn't really have anything to do with age. :) But it's important to be aware that raw diets (especially commercial ones) tend to be quite fatty, and not all dogs who have eaten mainstream kibble (especially the traditional kind with no more than around 25% fat) for many years do well with that,...

Re: Raw or cooked for hemangio dog?

It doesn't really matter as much whether it's cooked or raw, but that you support the condition. Cancer changes some metabolic processes in the body and you want to give the body what it needs to deal with that. I know it's often said how a cancer dog should be on a super low carb diet, but that's a...
