Re: Ketogenic diet and cancer

I hadn't thought about pancreas issues...derp. That much fat would be horrible for him, though I could cut his sugar intake. Most of his treats tend to be fruits and veggies, I could stick to more veggies over fruits. He doesn't need to lose weight, he needs to put on weight, if anything. I've been ...

Ketogenic diet and cancer

I was talking to the vet last week and she mentioned a ketogenic diet, "Dr. Harvey's Paradigm" diet specifically, that one of her clients was on and seems to have show help in controlling an oral cancer. So I'm googling and not really understanding. Max is raw fed on Primal and I don't know how that...

Re: The proverbial straw has arrived

I'm sorry this happened and it's miserable for everyone. Is there a Vizsla rescue or breed club to reach out to for rehoming?

Ok, seriously? The rescue recommended this "breeder"and the breeder gave a 66% discount? Wtf? Does the rescue get a kickback? This is just bizarre to me.

Re: Old age or kidney failure

See if you can do the cbc with Sdma test. It directs early stage kidney disease much better. In sorry she's slowing and I hate incontinence. Will she use a potty pad, put somewhere easy to clean, as a last resort?

Re: Oral growth

CBD oil is on my list of things to discuss when we mani-pedi/chiro next week. The vet is funny about it though so we'll see. She totally doesn't buy in unless she's practically done the research herself. We agree to disagree on several points, like my HW protocol and not vaxxing the indoor cat, this...

Re: Oral growth

I got the surgeon's report on Friday. It's most likely metastisized to his lungs and there is nothing truly allopathic to do, apparently. Debulking is not really an option because there would be open bone and nothing to grow over it. The tumor would also probably grow back fairly quickly. So I need ...

Re: Oral growth

Given a few days perspective I've decided against radiation. I think the stress would be too much and be counterproductive to healing. I can't even pee alone and he fights a crate until he's bloody. No good sending him to the vet school for weeks for radiation. It's at least a 2 hour drive, one way ...

Re: Oral growth

The lungs are not clear but not conclusive. I'll know more once the radiologist weighs in. At this point we may be looking at debulking the tumor for his comfort and pathology. My vet was not on board with jaw surgery done by anyone other than a specialist but was more open to debulking the tumor. I...

Re: Oral growth

I wish it were a dried cherry but it's not. It could be one of several "oma" cancers but it is likely cancer, oral melanoma being the first guess. There are so many things I don't know right now. Tomorrow we do a chest x-ray and if there is metastitzation (sp?) then it's pretty much palliative. We d...

Re: Oral growth

We have a surgery consult Tuesday at noon with the oncologist. She supposed to be one of the best ones outside of the vet schools so we'll see. A friend had a good experience at this doc (as good as it can be) with her rottie's bone cancer. I was told that the typical course of action is surgery fol...

Oral growth

Max went in to the vet this morning for his usual mani-pedi and I asked them to draw blood so I could schedule a dental because his breath is horrible. The vet looked at his teeth and decided to take a look at his molars when she saw a growth, about the size of a dried cherry, on the roof of his mou...

Re: Seizure or...?

So, after writing this, I had a "duh" moment and emailed the vet most of what I wrote here, minus the previous history stuff. She said she made file notes and if it happened again to let her know and we'd go from there. I also realize I sounded like I wasn't going to do anything to help him anymore....

Seizure or...?

I'm not even truly sure it was a seizure but I don't know. Tonight we were watching tv and Max was being pesty as usual but seemingly agitated. He was up and down on the couch, wouldn't settle, killed a random toy he found, etc. He's weaning off a short course of pred so he's antsy and I chalked it ...

Re: MP's got the tick disease(s)!

Oh balls, I'm so sorry to read this. I really just wanted to chime in to say that I get Max's 100mg /30 ct. Doxy from Costco for about $20 a scrip. My local grocery wanted almost 140 for the same drug. If your vet is willing to call a scrip in somewhere, it might be worth price checking. GoodRX can ...

Re: Feeding help!

Thanks for the reassurance that he's not going to keel over from an unballanced diet for the weekend. I've gotten more ground beef and some baby food to use as a fall-back. His diet is hit or miss. I split his 5 mg pred dose into two doses, given approx 30 minutes before a meal. Last night he's eati...

Re: Feeding help!

Cushing's itself isn't food specific, too much adrenal (cortisol) suppression trying to balance the Cushing effects (= medically induced addisons) leads to lethargy and loss of appetite. Pred is the "antidote". I hadn't thought of baby food, I wonder if he'll eat that. He likes the pouch ones, I use...

Feeding help!

Max went off feed..which is a sure sign of the apocalypse. He went off his dog food specifically. We feed Primal beef with pureed carrot and scrambled egg mixed in. I called his vet, who happens to be at a agility trial this weekend but was gracious enough to let me have her cell number. She took hi...

So...I'm an idiot. It's orange pulp. Undigested orange pulp. I'd forgotten we added some slices to his food offhand after he tried to chomp an orange. The vet was really nice about it but doh!

A (nother) poop thread -with pictures!

Something is in Max's poop! I texted the vet the pics below and she didn't think they were tapes. There were A LOT if them this morning, fewer tonight. To give you a visual, they're semi-translucent jelly looking rice-sized bits...And gross. Max has been dropping weight even with a food increase and...
