Latest numbers, any thoughts?

So we had blood work done 2(?) weeks ago. I've been sitting on the numbers trying to make sense of them. Some stuff I know is cushings related but try as I google, I'm so confused. There a also a lot of border normal values that are just within tolerance. Anyone adept at reading bloodwork to interpr...

Re: Apoquel

My (Max's) ophthalmologist talked to me about it since she frequently works with the local allergist and said that for environmental allergies it works fairly well, not so much for food allergies. So the question of efficacy also depends on knowing what allergies you're dealing with. Since none of t...

Re: Wit's. End.

So the blood work came back. All looks "normal" for a cushings dog (high cholesterol, high alk phos) except his sodium is low but potassium is fine, which usually indicates an addison's reaction. I've been adding salt because his ACTH numbers look spot on and no symptoms are being controlled. His ve...

Wit's. End.

Things have been steadily going downhill at body de Max. First off, we have a chiro appt. on Monday with the vet, so we are going. The house soiling has not stopped with the trilostane as I hoped it would, and how it did on the anipryl. Pee and sometimes poop every night. Tonight he also dug through...

A Max Update

I realized it's been awhile since Max's last update. He's 10 1/2 now and the cushings is doing a number on us all. I wonder sometimes if Addison's would be easier to manage but I don't want to go down that road. Last fall we did anipryl and it helped a lot until he built up a tolerance. Then we incr...

Re: Heartguard or Interceptor?

I like interceptor because I can do the safeheart dose for Max (same as Sherri) and because I'm not a huge fan of ivermectin but if there's not a lot of difference for him I'd choose what you're comfortable with. Both are single drug so you don't have to worry about muti-drug interactions. I would c...

I understand that he's not a model patient at the vet but I would go. Now. This is serious and home remedies aren't going to make this better.

Re: Lady severe allergy & need a good vet

I second benedryl for immediate relief as well as cort-aid or something topical if needed. Holisitic is awesome but sometimes tried and true allopathic is the way to go to manage symptoms until you can get into the vet. Nutriscan is fine and you can do it at home. While the kit/results are good refe...

Re: "Cyst" that keeps refilling :S

Max has one, about the size of a pencil eraser, on his side. It has two holes. One squirts a thick gray goo if i palate it, one hole bleeds almost like a zit if it's bumped. It refills, defying the vets prediction that it would go away, but doesn't empty often, isn't growing or changing and it doesn...

The heavy shelling has stopped, smoke is thick in the air. We had a few moments of hiding under the couch but no real catastrophes. Snoozing now on the couch.

Checking in -4th of July edition

How are we doing this year? Fortunately it's a mid-season monsoon in the middle of the map so few, if any, fireworks! Yay! Now we contend with rain and restlessness but I'll take it! On a related note (restless dog), Max threw out his hip on Friday and his chiro is out of town until Tuesday at an ag...

Re: No more dogs on my bed, ever!

Ha! I had to train Max TO sleep on the bed (Thunderstorms not withstanding)! Most of the time he starts at the foot of the bed and ends up on the floor in his bed. When we leave he sleeps on the bed, I know because I've come home to find him there, not at all concerned that we're home. He doesn't li...

A rotary cutter and a straight edge will be your fastest bet. Make sure you borrow the rotary mat too so you don't dig lines into your table. I've seen these and they look like a good brain game.

Maybe a rib out of place? Is it just one side or which ever one he's laying on? Does he groan if you massage his side's while standing?

Re: dog cosmetic dentistry?

I would think orthodontics that don't measurably improve quality of life or fix a major disorder could be considered "cosmetic". If you have a show dog with veneers because they have horrible teeth or implants instead of natural...I guess that would count but I don't know that I'd ever get to that p...

Re: new van! Bella doesn't like it :(

Max won't crate, period, but he also won't lie down in the car. We got the seatbelt so there's some measure of protection. I think B would lose her ability to balance around corners and things if she's crated (though I totally understand why you would want to crate her) and not being able to see, if...

Re: Dog surrender process

So the dogs went to rescue that I do transports for, as many of you may have seen on Facebook. Sunday (Easter, I might add) the dogs were brought to my house. BIL/SIl did not come. The kids whose parents owned Filbert and Doodles did come, though they did not care that they were losing their dogs......
